Good day people,

I want to know if there is a specific Ground kit for Bj40 or a DIY kit for grounding his engine.

My question comes up since I was looking on amazon and exist a ground kit for racing cars that helps to improve electrical system.

On my 40 (3B engine) I have 2 grounds 1 from Engine to chasis and other from engine to battery -

open to suggestions.

As long as cables are big enuf and connections are shinny metal should be OK as is. NO-OX grease is good stuff.

Ground issues are often the route problem with electrical issues in LCs. That is the reason I am a ground Nazi. Cables from Bat to frame, engine and body. Strap from back of engine to fire wall. I also run dedicated grounds from Bat to fuel pump and a jumper from the fuel pump ground to the frame at the back.

I use this type of washer between all cables and ground surface

X2! And i add dielectric grease between those star washers and frame/engine and terminals

No photos. Just basic battery cables. I buy bulk cable and make my own with proper sized (wire and bolt) copper lugs. You can generally find generic battery cables at the auto store as well. I generally use 1/0 cable, it is overkill but I prefer it that way.

I did a lot of boat wiring when I lived in the Keys and found that most oversize the cable as an offering to the corrosion gods. Takes longer for a bigger cable to rot through. :) Almost impossible to prevent totally.

I don't like ground cables in series like; battery to chassis to engine to firewall.
I changed my ground cables as follows:
1. Battery to starter housing. Shortest return path for starter motor.
2. Battery to firewall.
3. Battery to top of engine. Shortest return path for glow plugs.

Too many grounds can potentially cause ground looping.

@scrapdaddy, ground loops are essentially small current loops within the grounding system. Usually caused by differing voltage drops across various devices that rely on a ground to function. Not sure that makes any sense... do a google on "ground loops in DC circuits"

Yes, and causes hum and noise problems in audio, video and data equipment.
No, is not a problem in just DC set up's like our old school 40's, but can be a problem in modern cars with all the computer stuff (motor management) on board.
In our "old school" 40's the Voltage Regulator is grounded by its housing on the firewall. The Alternator is grounded by its housing on the engine, still there is an extra ground (loop) wire between the VR and the Alternator to avoid / eliminate / level out any voltage difference.

I know I'm late on this thread ... and the least knowledgeable. I say don't buy ground cables - make your own. DIY gets you the exact length you want, better quality, and great price ($4 or $5 a piece). I bought some heavy gauge cables at at McFadden-Dales and crimped on lugs and shrink wrapped the ends. Pics aren't of my cables - but they look similar.

Wow, that is a CLEAN engine in that last pic, hardware looks great too... makes me want to see the rest of the cruiser.

It’s on the showroom floor of BTB Products / Man-A-Fre in Henderson, NV. I took photos of it, and tried to copy it.
