Hey all,

I have a freshly built 2h in a fj75 converted to a hj75 that I built myself, pretty much everything is brand new from the pick up to the head, Including a race pump and injectors to suit from "JH hilux" and turbo intercooled setup from "Whistle n soot"

The issue I'm having is grey smoke at start up, light grey at idle and fairly heavy grey smoke jf you give the throttle a stab.
I haven't had a chance to bed the rings in properly yet as the vehicle is still being built, I've advanced the pump to see if that makes any difference with no luck, and still waiting on my compression test kit 🙄

glow system seeks to be working fine as it starts fine and runs through the rev range fine.

Has any one had this after a fresh built engine? I'm thinking residual from the assembly grease or something of the likes but it doesn't really clear up, I've had it running for at least 30 mins at a time to play around with it once warm

Cheers

edit** Ive ran it up again at mid idle for roughly 20 mins and the smoke has cleared up at idle and the rev ranges , still punches smoke if you stab the throttle, but thats expected. my biggest fear was tearing down the engine again to re-ring or ball hone the cylinders again but all seems well at the moment

😂 cheers again

drive the piss out of it for a while and then adjust the fuel and turbo settings

Grey smoke is significant overfuelling.. if the engine has been sitting for a very long time I'd be concerned about two things - fuel rack and leather diaphragm, useful resources below.
  1. Fuel rack has gummed up and isn't moving - inspect through side plate..
  2. Leather Diaphragm in the injection pump has broken - replace diaphragm 2H Diaphragm replacement - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZPvljDvzPpgPWnViWyJdNVVkYDdpIe9x_ppJcHW3jX4/pub

I did think about the diaphragm...the pump was built in 2022 so sat for 2 years sealed from the shop without running, so hopefully not that but will pay to have a look! Cheers for the write up!

And I can confirm the rack moves through its positions.

Cheers man

I'd be very surprised if a 2yo diaphragm is broken - unless they didnt replace it.

Also double check your two hoses from the throttle body down to the governor housing are in place.
