So I've been looking for bumpers and 10 out of 10 pictures I see are all ARB, are they so much better then TJM? or is it a just a cosmetic preference because they do look different.

I have searched "tjm vs arb" and "tjm arb" with no results...

I had a TJM on my 4Runner and have an ARB on my Land Cruiser. The ARB is slightly stronger but the powdercoating on it is much much much better than the TJM. I also do not like the look of the TJM as much because it basically tilts forward from the vehicle. Both are good though. HTH.

I don't *think* the TJM is rated for more than an 8k winch.

Ask Alvaro which is better, judging by his pics.............

I like the simple styling of the TJM but it seems that the concensus is that the quality isn't there.

I wish either Slee or Hanna would make a high quality, fairly light weight non-winch front bumper similar to the TJM.

Right now, it seems you have to choose between seriously hard core vs. wimpy when you pick out your front bumper.

It depends on what you are after. If you are a serious offroader, ARB is built with that in mind. If you are an occasional offroader looking for disposable front end protection, and has winch capability (up to warn XD9000) with lighter weight, get the TJM.

This is my second TJM. I look more for Deer, Elk and moose protection during high speed driving. Hence the Bull Bar TJM makes is perfectly suited for this. The philosophy is that you total out the bull bar in the middle of nowhere, but that the rest of the truck is still driveable.

It is also quite easy to reinforce a TJM to be a serious offroad bumper. That's not it's original design, but given it's price, a good welder could make it pretty beefy for a low total cost.

Reputation maybe, I see lots of photos of ARB bumpers in accidents and they go untouched while the other car is badly beaten.

Just don't hit an immovable object with a stout bumper because the immovable object (brick wall) will win, your truck will be totalled since all the force of the bullbar with be transferred into the frame and not sheet metal. Just happened to a friend 2 weeks ago:frown:

As far as stout bumpers... Slee has the stoutest (is this a word? stoutest?)

I had the TJM on my 4Runner--I was turning around about 5mph--the car that drove in front of my was going over 40--the TJM picked up the car put a 12" dent from the front to the rear:D The only carnage to the TJM was a rubber bumperet broke along with the screw holding it on. As mentioned above the ARB is more stout--one thing I didn't like about the TJM is the side wings bolted on--the ARB is one solid piece. I like the ARB up front and the Hanna quality for the rear.

I don't like the design of the TJM -- a minor issue of the bolt on side/corner deal of the TJM is just dumb...sure it helps with shipping, but...still dumb.

The TJM, from my observation is not nearly as strong as the ARB. I've seen a TJM damaged from a hit that shouldn't have damaged it (Alvaro's old TJM).

I like the design and the relative strength of the ARB. If you want the stoutest...ARB would be a better choice than the TJM. Slee's will whoop the ARB in strength, however.

While this all may be true, we cant forget the fact that ARB is marketed better. ARB's presence is greater, Im sure because they are better, but also because you see their products available from more distributors.

Cheers

marketed better? perhaps.

if the TJM was superior to the ARB, marketing wouldn't mean a lick. people want the best product for the best price. in that battle, TJM loses to ARB.

Personal preference IMHO. I wanted an aluminum bar. ARB didn't make one, so I got a TJM.

I second the statement about TJM wings. Not a great design. Days after I got mine on, a cab pulled out in front of me and I caved in his DS rear door only scratching the bumper, but my PS wing was pushed in ever so slightly.
