So you don't want to post if you are or are not using the factory wheel?

POPCORN

That size tire will be more than fine on the truck...those sizes have to be posted for the tire manufactures lawyers. Adjust air pressure correctly and you will be fine..

jwestpro...I would not venture into the 40 board where people are using OEM 5.5 wheel on a 10.50 tire..it will blow your mind.

Or a 12.50 on a OE wheel with thousands of 80s on the roads.

It wouldn't blow my mind at all. In fact I am FULLY aware of such uses and have experience with such set ups on outings with my 96 Disco. It's a blast for the right purpose and situations!

However, for a nice modern vehicle that will mostly see the highway, it is simply a fact that handling and safety are dramatically changed. Overly wide tires ballooning out is far from the ideal combination.

I'm not even the slightest against the tire size choice. It should be mounted on a 9" wheel though. This would also add to how good the whole package looks while also being just plain better.

You are incorrect if you think that all sizes are "fine" on all width wheels. There is always an ideal range by design. This is basic physics.

You are also missing the point if you think the issue is the tires "on the truck". It is the tires on factory wheels.

There are limitations to the handling of all vehicles. Why narrow the range by something so simple as tire and wheel combination?!

Damn. I missed the show

No talking about the OE wheel. You know what is great that we live in a free country and can do what ever we want to do.

I just wanted to add historical data that says a 12.5 can and will fit an OE toyota wheel well and can get 100k mikes with no issues.

Carry on

Hey Guys,
What should be the recommended pressure for my new tires. I was running 33/34psi on my stock setup before.

Tires are MT-762 Maxxis 285/70-17 on TRD rims. Currently I'm running them on 30 psi.

For some reason I cannot upload the pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toyota says 46psi for the LT285/70-17 tires, but that is too high.

39.3psi (call it 40psi) will yield the same Load Limit as your stock setup.

The 30psi you are currently running is TOO LOW for on-road or high speed use.

HTH

Thanks a lot mate !
Just forgot to mention that my stock wheels were Dunlop Grandtrek AT, 285/65-17 and Toyota sticker says 33psi. The new 285/70-17 are quite fat tread. I had them aired to 40 today.

Duratrac Help

Hey guys,

I'm attempting to buy the same tires as Kreiten and apologize for the noob question...but want to make sure I get the right ones. Here they are on Tire Rack.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...&tireModel=Wrangler+DuraTrac&partnum=77QR8WDT

My question is whether these on Amazon are the same tire? If so, I can save ~$125. The reason I'm not sure is because the Tire Rack ones have an LT in the name-the Amazon ones don't specify.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QL66E8/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Eric

Tire racks LT are E rated 10 ply tire.

Just confirm that with amazon then you have same tire and save few bucks by ordering from amazon.

I never buy tires online because they need to be on wheels. If I buy tires thru my tire shop they mount and balance for free with lifetime rotation which should be rebalanced every time.

So unless you have a road hunter balancing !machine to roadforce these every 5k plus puncture fixing skills you may be thinking too one dimensionally.

Gl

Oh yes price match too

Several major tire shops will mount your tires on your wheels and include lifetime rotation and balance within the fee. I've purchased from TireRack and have never had a problem. They've even shipped directly to my local tire shop, which then mounted the tires for me. I say go ahead and buy them from Amazon, TireRack, or wherever works for you. Just make sure you're getting the tire you need/want first (LT vs P, E rated, etc.).

Eric. You can verify that Gy only makes that size in an E rating on the GY website. I'd first trust the knowledge of the manufacturer over anyone at a reseller.

As for the cost, you must know that with some things, a good local relationship is worth $ in the long run, even just for sake of convenience but I'll tell you that working with one shop for 7 years on 9 sets of tires has worked well for me.

Yet, the cost on Amazon is basically equal to TireRack. Not sure where you're getting the $125 savings but shipping either will likely save you tax which is usually similar to the shipping though on items like that.

Lastly, the shop I deal with always matches pricing to TireRack, TiresByWeb, 1010 tires, and the more well known store chains.

I would suggest Discount Tire to you but the nearest one to Pittsburg is over in mid/eastern Ohio.
Good luck.

Not directing this at anyone in case I get someone feeling defensive not my intent... just helping the lurker..

Recall my thread when I went thru the outlaw offroad fiasco when they sent me the wrong sized tire... because I shopped at this local store (loyal to them) the mgr allowed me to test fit the 325s I wanted in the first place and return it if it didn't work. He actually ended up giving me half credit on tires I didn't even buy from him just so I can avoid outlaw!

I'm talking about nordstrom type customer service wearing your $600 pair of prada shoes for a day and if it didn't suit u return them for another size or shoe. Wait this is even better than nordstrom service. Dude has my business for life.

No tirerack or amazon dealer would go to bat this far and can't since shipping back to their remote warehouse would come at a great cost (your time included).

I like strategic relationships not transactional. I support vendors who have my back even if they take a hit for the short term as they have me for the long term.

I wish more sponsors would operate/think this way. Haven't run into one yet.

Les Schwab on bel red road, Andy is the mgr. Awesome person.

Exactly why I'd never order a tire online. Imagine the hassle even over an honest mistake on their part. Not even close to worth the time.

I've had a similar great experience as you with Discount Tire locally but may check out Les Schwab next time for comparison.
They took care of a similar situation for me several years back so when we had the "big" snow in 08/09 and they were working all night, I brought them a few dozen doughnuts from Top Pot. Needless to say, that went over well!

Discount tire next door is the highest volume store in Pnw. They do great wor but turnover there is really high. Les Schwab guys run a much more tidier shop, family feel almost. Much easier to schedule time too in my experience.

Jwest message me anytime before u ask for Andy. I'll vouch for u. Mmmm doughnuts
