After unfortunate experiences with a Warn (corroded out after a couple of years), I got my Mile Marker 12K today via UPS.

Opened it up and must say I'm really impressed. The thing seems to be built like a tank; all solid castings, more compact than I was expecting, the thing just has that heavy "quality" feel to it. They seem to have changed the design recently since it has a different hydraulic motor than the one in the advertizing pics (made in Norway), and the control levers are different as well.

I'm expecting it to be slow as heck, I guess I'll see just how slow when I get it plumbed in.

Now I need to start drilling holes in my bumper...

Humm looks cool but can u please enlighten me on what it does... I have never seen or heard of such a device...sorry if it’s a stupid question.. Just never came upon one of these

TIA

It's a winch. It is different than most that you see, in that, it is hydrualically powered from the power steering pump, instead of being, more commonly, powered by an electric motor.

ahh now it makes sense....

That’s dam cool:cool:.... and it should be more powerful and heavy duty than the electric ones right...

Cant wait to see it on the rig and in action

There are several never ending debates about hydraulic vs. electric, if you search the outfitting section :D

Sweet

I've been doing some research on winches too. That's the exact one I want.

But, I 'm not going to run it off the power steering pump, I've already running hydraulic assisted steering.

I'm am either go to get a PTO Hydraulic pump, or get a clutch activated pump that runs off the pulley in front of the truck. I found a clutch activated pump this morning in Northern tool. Then did some more research and found some better websites. www.ptohydraulics.com was the best one IIRC.

That's something you can think about for the future if you are not pleased with the speed of the winch. 3.5 gpm is the max flow and 1500 psi for the pressure. You can probably tweak the 3.5 and get more speed from it.

Where did you get your winch.

Keep us updated on how you like it etc.

I'm hoping I can fit a PTO on the transfer case of my 5 speed when it arrives. There's very limited space under the hood of my current auto HDJ-81, and I haven't been able to see any way to mount a pulley-driven unit. It *might* be possible but its very tight.

I got my winch from www.winchesplus.com. He was the cheapest I could find online, and he gives a $50 discount it you don't need the wire rope (I didn't, I'm using synthetic). Dave will also sell you a winch with synthetic already mounted. He shipped it promptly and is very helpful with questions.

The 12K has a new motor made by danfoss, and other small improvements as well. As I mentioned, I'm very impressed by the quality of the winch.

Ok

Ok, this has set me on fire.

I got to get some cash rounded up.

I've had a mile marker hydraulic on my BJ-42 for several years now. It's a great winch. Paired with a diesel, it's a logical choice, IMHO.

To go with my Milemarker, I just got 100' of bright yellow synthetic 3/8 winch line with a neat safety thinmble on the end. From www.winchline.com. I chose these guys because of the safety thimble.

What the heck do you have in that freezer that you need a winch to get it out:eek: Um....nevermind....I don't want to know....

No, its still sitting on my bench. I've got a part time 5 speed HDJ-81 inbound from Japan that I'm replacing my automatic HDJ81 with, so I've decided to wait until it gets here before setting the winch up.
