What a great story. And at least this didn't happen to you around this time last month....or you would of got to do all that fun stuff in about -30 degree weather:)

I'm just wondering if a winch would have made a difference? I relatively inexperienced off-road and am considering adding one soon.
Learn how to drive (off-road) first. Best recovery device is the knowledge and experience to avoid getting stuck in the first place.

The Cohen Brothers would be interested in making a movie based on this story.

Now that's a good story. Thanks.

Took the winch off before the 1200 mile trip to save some gas and improve handling??? No lift yet.
I bet you wont be doing that again
great story though thank you

Cool. The story will be worth multitudes of that amount in the future. :) Thanks for the laugh

great story. where exactly did you ride during the hour it took to get this puppy to your truck? looks a little snug in the cab

if that happend on one of the local fire roads here, the only person I would have run across if that happend to me is some local soccer mome on her way to Nordstrom in her Range Rover who would'nt know 4WD from @#$!
good thing about the Pineys ( jersey rednecks) is that they are very resourceful. I once picked up a guy walking down road in the pine barrens, like 10 miles form the nearest paved road, cradling a shotgun in his arms. said he didnt "need no drivin' license" cause he could walk to the store ( i was afraid to ask where he was walkinf from) gave him a ride to the WA-WA, and we soent the next few hours popping cans with his .22 and he bought the beer.
Glad you made it out.
Hammer

Any idea where you really were? Somewhere outside of Kalispell.......or Libby?

I rode on the back standing up. Froze my tits off.

These guys were great. The kind of men you would go into battle with.

Somewhere between Condon and Missoula

great story.... looks like it was a PITA to get it unstuck.

I took my FJ60 into about 2 feet of unpacked snow this weekend in South Lake Tahoe with full tire pressure and in 4WD LO. I was lucky to get thru the section and can imagine what you went thru being 5+ miles off the main road.

last winter me and my old lady decieded to take her yj wrangler snow playing during first snow of year in dellaware canal system. Everything was going greeat. Rideing along avoiding mud holes beins she only got 31s and 3 inch lift. rideing threw some virgin snow then o shyt front end droped two feet befor i could hit brakes whole jeep in a mudhole up to the bottom of the doors. Just the right size to eat a jeep. 6hours latter and frozen frozen friends showed up with a bronco i hate FORDS!

The shortcut you took is something i do on every trip i take. I see dirt county road gas road loggin road i take it. Be glad locals were friendly.

Thanks for the story. Glad your ok. The guys at work got a kick out of it.
