I need a good Mechanic to do some brake and electrical work on my 80 FJ45 Troopy. Any recommendations?
Look up Duggy’s Garage. I very rarely farm stuff out as I do it myself but if I do, it’s them.

DIY. Because if a "professional" screws up, you'll still lose money and you won't learn anything.

Otherwise, Miguel at Katy L&T Auto comes highly reccomended. 281-395-3987.

Duggy's has made a name for themselves...

Agreed. I’d do a quick search for Duggy’s in the mud forum before taking your truck there.

Mayco Xtreme has done quite a bit of (good) work for me on my 80 and they’re doing an EFI on a 40 at the moment so they know the trucks.

Jeboost Sobe at Teq Auto Solutions and Offroad is amazing. He is on the east side of Houston near the port. Relatively small shop, but he does great work. Check him out on instagram too.

Brett Meaux-thats about as Louisiana as a name can get. Good to see another native on here

Toy - Lex in Kemah
I agree, JP at Toy-Lex in Kemah is great. I had him do both exhaust manifolds and DS valve cover gasket on my 2000 100. Next, going to have him replace driveshaft and install 4 Trail Taylor rear adjustable control arms and adjustable panhard bar. JP also has a 100 and does lots of LC offroad mods.

Jesus (Jeebost) at Teq Auto Solutions helped me out with a PPI on a '96 LC. He was great and extremely patient with me. If I lived in the Houston area, there's no doubt I would use him for all my Toyota needs.

NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. I hope this review helps someone. I brought my 1997 LX 450 to Land Cruiser of Houston on February 7, 2024, for a ring and pinion gear change to 3.55. The truck was finally ready for pickup on June 15, 2024. After driving the required 500 miles to break in the ring and pinion, I returned on October 11, 2024, for a front and rear differential oil change. During this visit, I also requested to have the floor carpet replaced.

I had previously removed my rear seats and installed 8 D-rings on the rear seat bolts for securing gear, which I instructed the team to reinstall after replacing the carpet. When I picked up my truck on November 22, I discovered that only two D-rings had been reinstalled, 2 interior rear moulded foot steps were missing, six seat bolts were missing, and no holes had been cut in the carpet for the rest of the rings. Additionally, the bracket for my CB radio was missing.

I immediately raised these issues with Vlad, who assured me someone would come to my house to complete the work. To date, no arrangements have been made.

On November 24, I engaged the front and rear ARB air lockers for the first time since the re-gearing, and the compressor failed to stop running, indicating a leak in the system. When I contacted Vlad about this, he claimed the air lockers were aftermarket and not installed by his team, though he stated they were tested and operational without leaks before returning the truck to me. He advised me to take the vehicle to whoever installed the lockers for repairs.

January 2, 2024 I took my truck to a certified ARB specialist who found:

1. leaking crush washers at the front and rear air line fitting to the axle.

2. damage to the front air locker copper line

3. Missing differential locking tap in the front causing damage to the internal copper tube.

I encountered issues with accountability post-service. I sent an invoice and photos to be reimbursed and have heard nothing. They did give me a bag of seat bolts and 2 molded foot steps.

Overall, my experience has been extremely frustrating due to poor communication, incomplete work, and unaddressed issues. The lack of attention to detail and accountability leaves me unable to recommend this shop.
