If you are not up for a full inspection your self, pay for a Pre-Purchase Inspection...
Once you have both checked out & see what they need, then decide.... A good deal depends on how much it costs you after the purchase as well...
In my area in 6 months there were one 2 100's that came available. There was a stock 99 Land Cruiser with 175k mi for $9600, ran well, neaded O2 sensors, valve cover gaskets, & next T-belt due in 20k mi.
Then there was a 98 LX470 for $5200, with 197k mi, AHC removed, OME parts installed, Full set of 5 BFG Ko's, a failed rear U-Joint, front diff needing bushings, & no T-belt history.
I dropped the rear driveshaft & drove away in the LX in "front wheel drive mode" for less than half the ask on the Land Cruiser.
Figured I could bring it up to date on maintenance for way less than the cost of the Land Cruiser. After one year I have done a T-belt & water pump, Radiator & hoses, 2 rear U-Joints, Alternator, & misc. small stuff, & I was still right. Somehow on Maui getting the LX & fixing it was thousands less than the cost of buying the LC...
Good luck getting the best Rig for you...
