Jsuthey, I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll be in a white 80 with a con ferr rack. I might be joined by two other white 80s. kinda hard to miss!

I spent yesterday prepping my truck. Im pumped for labor day!

I love that area. Had an interesting time there once when I ran into Toys On The Rocks over a 4th of July. Have a great time! I will be thinking of how much fun you're having while I'm a few hundred miles north at home. :)

It looks like a bad fire season. A couple days ago the Rim Fire overtook the Diamond O campground where we camped just a couple months ago. So sad.

Anyone know how smokey it is in this area?

Its not bad depending on the wind. On friday it was horrible from my house 10-15 miles from my house direct shot 30 miles via highway. Today its nice and clear with no north wind from the american fire. That one will smoke people out as oppossed to the rim cire. American is just south of truckee

Is there any thing sexier than a stacked cruiser? Well, I can think of one other thing that is pretty damn sexy when stacked! But this is close. :)

Hi all,we had a great time, the Sierra Buttes are amazing! I ran into Sizzle and his family up there at the top parking spot by the big green gate(it was closed and locked so we hiked up to the tower)Wow big time views and a guy coming down counted 138 steps or so!

We went up through Gold lake rd. And back down the road to Sierra City. Pretty fun trail, I got to use 4LO for a bit and that was cool as it was Very steep.Don't know how anyone could get a rental car up there Fast Eddy!! But mostly easy cruise. Got some custom pin striping from the Soft bushes(it'l buff right out!)

Got stuck behind a real newbie going really slow on the rally part of the trail. He was driving a Ford Explorer and going like 1mph. He was being followed by a lifted Bronco. They had turned around in defeat on the easy trail up from Sierra City.I finally got by them as they found a good spot to pull off the trail.Amazing I didn't encounter any mountain bikers! Pics to follow.Nice rain this morning with some thunder&lighting!
Nice to meet you and your family sizzle!
John

This area is amazing! I'm ashamed it's taken me so long to work my way this far north in the Sierras. I was a little nervous arriving kinda late on the Friday of a 3-day weekend, but got a nice site at the Gold Lake 4x4 camp:

The one at little Gold Lake was taken, but one day this will be mine!

Saturday we got up early because I have a 20 month old...she makes camping much more difficult and much better too. She loves the truck. "Truck!" is one of her favorite works and I heard it a lot this weekend. She started giggling once we hit dirt and started getting tossed around :)

Anyway, we headed out of camp to do the Deer Lake trail. Smoke was almost non-existent that day and the views were great:

At Packer Saddle, we headed back to camp and chilled hard for the rest of the day. It was just me and my family on this trip and they aren't into off roading as much as me, but they indulge me and had a lot of fun on this trip.

Sunday we were up early again

This time we went back to where we ended up the day before and continued on the Sierra Buttes trail to the Buttes.

Here's my butte on the way up the spur to the Sierra Buttes fire look out:

Toward the top of the spur we drove past the signs for parking, ending up at a locked gate, which is as far as you can drive. This saved our legs a hundred feet or so of elevation gain and every bit counts when you are carrying a one year old! Before we set out on foot for the top, low and behold, here comes jsuthey and his family! Great minds thing alike!

Nice to meet you and your family, John! Your cruiser didn't look to bad when you passed us on the I80! Where were those last pics you posted from?

Here's a pic from the way up. It was a bit more hazy this day, but still not bad:

After the Buttes, we descended down the shelf road to Sierra City:

This was an incredibly beautiful drive. Nothing but spectacular views all the way down. At the bottom, we took jsuthey's suggestion for lunch in Sierra City. Great suggestion! I love these old mining towns:

From there it was back to camp were we enjoyed the lake some more. I can't say enough about this campsite.

Here was the view that evening:

A little ominous, but in town they said 30% chance of isolated t-storms. My wife wanted to leave that night, but I convinced her to stay and leave the next morning. Woops! It poured from about 1 am until we got off the mountain. Everyone has their "packed up camp in pouring rain" story. Now I have mine. The camp site was flooded. Our tent floor felt like a water bed! But all in all, it wasn't too bad and we got it done. My wife is a trooper!

My friends bailed on us at the last minute, so that meant that I didn't have time to do everything that I wanted. So no Snake Lake. Sorry guys. But me and my family really fell in love with this area and we'll be back! Thanks for everyone's help putting this together!

 :flipoff2:
