Buddy is going into Atlanta tomorrow for BMW parts at a junk yard. Thought I would tag along, doubt I will find an 80, but I am looking for BMW or Cadillac horns, seams there was something else to look for from other vehicles, cant remember what now, what else would I look for?

If I do find an 80 going to snag a spare starter & alternator, and a grab handle for the drivers side if it is tan. Maybe spare relays (especially fuel pump)

I think that some BMWs had rectuangular switches that are awfully close to those used after '94 in LC80s. I'd snatch some of those if I were you!

RavenTai - as I prepare to dump my 80 I'll be selling off my collection of spares etc. If you need an alt and starter let me know.

From the j yard, other than horns from bmws don't think much else would help you much.

I would like to make trip to the local pick-and-pull and see if I can find cup holders from other vehicles that can be adapted to the 80's. I miss not having a good cup-holder on my FZJ80. I'm sure there is something from other manufacturers that can be adapted.

Junk, in no particular order,

sorry to hear you are selling the 80. Are you going to get another cruiser or go to g-wagen? wwouldn't be the same here without your personal touch :D

and ... I'd be happy to take any 20004 filters you have off your hands :D

seriously, I obviously missed a post where you explained this.

---I have been told that some Cadillacs had an air compressor (either from the suspension or air conditioning) that could be transplanted to an 80 for airing up tires, at least, and maybe to activate lockers!? I'm sorry I don't know details beyond that.

In any case, have fun :) .

Wow I must say I'm shocked too.

Found this thread that might explain it. Perhaps he's moving to a 100 series?

Yeah, the old caddies have an air compressor for load-leveling the rear suspension. Some folks from the Mitsubishi forum I also frequent have pulled these and mounted them in their offroad vehicles for onboard air. Beats spending a wad on a Quick Air 3.

I’ll take a look at the BMW switches, got a spare switch cover I can take along to compare to.

Junk YGPM

I had an 89 Cadillac Brougham that had the compressor, took it a up to 30 seconds just to fill the rear shocks (with a bunch of people), could this truly be used to fill up tires how long would you have to wait on it? An hour?

Atijerino, do you have the stock cup holder on the side of the console? if not I would start with that one, I think they came in on the later Cruisers?

I have one of these air pumps (pulled from a Caddy) and I am in the processing of mounting it in the cruiser. I will post all pics when I am done. Preliminary tests look good. I just have to finish wiring everything up.

hmm sounds good, how much of the system do I need to get? just the pump or is there a pressure switch and harness we can use also?

oh and just remembered what else I want to look at, Fuseboxes.

Rained out :(

Only other thing I can remember, seems like I remember a thread about installing a PS fluid cooler pulled off a Toyota Camry.

Nice idea R2, probably any good trans cooler could be turned into a PS cooler.

The list of non 80 Junk yard parts is getting pretty big. I have Tuesday off and it is not suppose to rain may go then.

Horns
Compressor
Switches
Fuse boxes
PS cooler

Stuck in GA, there are a bunch of yard's in Atlanta, unfortunately most of the good ones are on the north side, I live well south of ATL proper, look in the phone book under auto parts used/salvage, I hear the "Pull-A-Part" on the N. side is pretty big, their prices are reasonable

I better not find all the caddy compressors gone when I get there :flipoff2:
