When we moved to Kona I shipped my built 60. since your 62 is stock I don't think it would be worth the $1k to ship it. There are alot of cruisers over there that you could buy for what you could sell yours for.

The trick to staving off rust in the islands is to wash it thoroughly after the beach & keep it covered so that rain cannot get salt into the body panels.

If your dead set on shipping a cruiser over, buy a decent 40 or a built 60 (with little or no rust) & you can make some $$ by selling it when you leave. I could have sold my 60 for tidy proffit when I left, but my wife was too attached to it & wouldn't let me sell it (she daily drove it to work).

I'm not sure about Maui, but both the Big Island and Kauai (I've lived in both places) have tons of off-roading.

Not sure about model and year Toad, maybe like over here.
85 and below solid front axle, infamous 85 efi 4runner solid front.

But then again you know how they just like big yotas regardless of how they get em big, lots of body lifts over there just to fit tires and look cool.
I bet any 4x4 yoda with a good body would be a seller regardless of year.
A lot of yotas on lanai went flatbed after the bed fell off from rust and the motor kept runnin like a sewing machine as usual.

COskier...if you can afford to store it mainland it may be the best...kinda like a catch 22 here, you could make some money when you sell it there...but will you wanna sell it by then?
I say save the $1k from shipping, put $2-2500 on top an buy a decent island rig, as long as you keep it up you probably wont lose too much $ when selling.
I know this is a cruiser forum but built Sammis are bi%chin, used to be a couple on maui....cheep in the 90's
my 02:grinpimp:

COSkier1, is this a choice, business, fling? Just curious so you don't have to answer that part.

If you want to become a rice burner owner my son would be happy to trade his Eclipse for a Toyota pickup :D

redcruiser- it's a personal business choice. I applied for the job, and I'll be working out by Hana. And no, I'm not really interested in an eclipse. I can only imagine what my 2 labs will do to the interior of that car.:p But thanks!

Nice choice, it's a cool place to live. Two labs in an Eclipse would be fun to see! Seriously he's not selling now that I've found a new tranny to ship to him. ;)

It's a great place to live especially if you make enough to live on.

Awesome location. Kipahulu is heaven on earth. Long commute to town though. A 22RE pickup of any year is sounding even better.

I just returned from two weeks on Oahu. Driving around the east coast I saw a 60 for sale on the side of the road. On the nortshore, there were two 60s rusting next to the road. I did see a couple nice cruisers on the island, but most were rusting from the top down.

Living on the MS Gulf Coast, I've had good luck keeping the rust from spreading by simply keeping it under shelter and cleaned. Leave it out and it's a goner for sure!

Good luck in Maui; i did a touch and go there last week and took notice of some of the unpaved roads! Looked like lots of fun to be had!

If I was going to move to Maui, I would probably drive a street/trail bike 80% of the time. Get a klr 650... you will need something to zip around all the tourists on the road to Hana.

Well, I've decided to sell it. I know that taking the LC to Hawaii would be a death sentence for it, and I don't have the heart for it. It's my DD, and I don't off-road anymore.
I did just buy my wife a new VW Eos, and it gets shipped on Monday. It's blast to drive.
Landbruiser- I agree on the bike. I may be looking for a V-Strom when I get there.

I'll be posting an ad in the Denver papers soon. I'll be selling it for what I think is a very resonable price for a pretty clean LC. I'll post a link when it goes up, but PM me if you're interested.

Oh yeah, and thanks for all your input! I can't wait to get there!

A friend of mine who lives on Maui bought a Toyota Tacoma two years ago... brand new off the lot. It is already showing signs of rust. She wishes now she had bought a beater.... There are nice cruisers over there but you might have to take extra special care of it to keep it from rusting.

Personally I would leave mine here and buy a older "built" truck over there. Purely to have the opportunity to have a new truck. And if you were to do some wheeelin' you might not care about it as much = more fun.....
