I live local to D.A.P. in Fort Worth, TX, which is known for making great tunes for the 5.7 in Tundras, as well as other Toyotas. I have not been able to find a tune for my 2014, and I contacted DAP yesterday. Owner said no problem, so I'm looking to go next week. Gains are typically 15-20hp gain peak, 20-30hp gain mid-RPM/throttle points, improved shift points and throttle response, as well as improved vehicle dynamics as Torque management is removed.

The LC is already an awesome truck, and this little thing might really wake it up. Is anyone else interested in possibly getting a tune like this? I'll discuss it more with DAP, but I'm thinking it might go on a Dyno to develop the tune, as there is not a baseline yet existing.

I assume it requires premium fuel?

I inquired specifically about that. He replied that the OEM settings of the 3UR were actually made with premium in mind, but the knock sensors are very sensitive to any detonation and are very conservative. Additionally, DAP stated that their tunes made with premium in mind, but maintain the conservative reliance on knock sensors to maintain fuel grade compatibility. So, regular gas is ok for long drives, or if it’s just not available.

I'd be interested as well. I'm local (Arlington)

Cool, waiting on a call back at the moment. They do tune trans shift points, but I’d be interested in a more aggressive torque converter lockup as well. I’ll ask about both. Also, having more trucks local in the DFW area might help get a good baseline of vehicle specifics to hopefully offer the potential of a remote tune (mail order) option.

Sub’d to hear more. I’m in PACNW so also interested in mail order version. Previous experience with tuning the 3.5 Tacoma was very positive.

I am in St. Louis, MO, very interested in this, I would consider a road trip but preferably wait for a mail-able tuner.

I have experimented with using regular versus 93 premium, in my experience the truck drives way better on 93. I believe what DAP is saying about factory tuning.

My understanding is that ECT PWR bottom/switch overrides the DAP tune? If you could ask about that?

Additional consideration is about towing - would DAP recommend for or against using their tune while towing (e.g. boat)
- assuming use of 93 octane.

I joined Tundracrew FB group, and many of the members swear by this tune. Consencus says it really wakes the truck up, and makes it more fun to drive. Some anecdotal evidence of slightly increased cruising MPG, and better shifting. Many users also state it improves towing performance. Given that the engine and transmission are the same, I’d expect results to be similar. I will ask all the questions that have been posted and return with results. I’m swinging by this week to get the ECU scanned for programming to commence.

Will this work for the LX570? There are two schools of thought as it pertains to required fuel octane in the LX. It was my understanding that the Toyota and Lexus ECU’s could not be broken to be tuned. If they in fact can, then perhaps DAP can do a map that will allow the LX to run off 87 octane on a regular basis?

Update:

Stopped by DAP to pull ECU image, and bought an AFE dry panel filter in the process, which Dustin from DAP claims automatic 4-5hp “every time”.

I inquired about ECT button; He doesn’t know yet about whether it will allow 2 separate maps (mild/tuned), but will look into it. He suspects it’s similar to the Tundra tow/haul button which just adds a multiplier to throttle tip in and RPM shift points.

To converter lockup: Highly advised to leave it stock, he stated it can cause major damage to the transmission, and recommends to leave it it stock.

Mail order tunes: He CAN develope a mail order tune, but needs probably 7-9 vehicles to safely establish a baseline and develope a strong safety net via multiple dunk sessions.

I should be back in a week or 2 for the first tune and dunk session.

Now is the time to chime in and figure out if you’d like to be part of the process for getting a BA tune for the URJ200.

DAP is located in North Fort Worth, TX, and will need Crushers present to develope the tune. We’ve already got 1 (myself) and another few have showed interest. Let’s collective thought here, and forward to DAP once we get a bit deeper.
