Greetings fellow dieselheads, After fitting an intercooler to my old mans 1HDFT and disconecting all the egr we found the glo plug light on the dash not going off, we have replugged all the electric bits on the egr now it goes off but comes back on when the car is running, is this in the ecu memory or something, what can I do to get rid of it, thanks,, Al

You have a reset button in the dash .. but I'm not sure if it gonna function with your GP light .. it's more for t-belt light ..

Really so where would this button be then?
Tks
Al

In your dash in front of your speedo you musnt have a rubber ( small one ) cap .. behind the reset button.

Tried the reset button, thats only for the timing belt:frown:

Ive got all the electric bits replugged on the egr but vacs line disconected, I dont know what to do next, I removed the heat screen in the intake(Dads truck) for the IC install ,but on my truck which is non egr I have IC and heat screen removed without the glow plug light staying on problem.
Anybody know if there is a diagram available outlining egr details
Tks,, Al

Esar,,There must be a way to disconect this egr sensor, I know there have been others who have disconected egr have done it to different degrees, all i have done is block the vac line, some unplug all the electric bits I have been told that unplugging the electric bits can make the ecu grumpy, I also know that egr trucks dont have altitude compensators so a full understanding of what is going on with the egr and how it intergrates could help. What comprises the egr exactly besides the obviouscast iron mushroom valves bit,, as far as i know compared to my non egr truck you have the blue and orange pair of solenoid thingys airbox side and another pair above the injector pump plus one other brown solenoid bit that was strapped to the old intake pipe that we through out for the new IC intake, surely someone knows what the fuction of all these bits is and how they affect the motor.

First i disconnected the egr valves and nothing was lightning!
I took off the egr valves and placed an IC, i left all the electric and airtube system as before. My pump is fitted by a specialist, according gas oil to more air. I did nothing on turbo, even replace airtube(egr/pressure turbo) from heather (now removed) to post ICooler. Now i've a code 71 !!!
:confused::confused::confused:

Hi-- Had similar problem with Glow screen light would come on randomly when driving after egr was disconnected.Took it to dealer who said all was good with glow screen operation.Found when low and high boost sensor was reconnected the problem went away ---- not sure why. I have removed all egr pipes and unplugged the two electric solenoid valves only.

I know this is quite old already but my old man is still driving his truck around with this light on, some toyota techi in a one horse town told him its due to that heater element thingy in the intake flange being removed,,,Im not sure about any of this so would like to bump the thread

Hello Allen- I have completely removed egr and glow screen and fitted a intercooler and have no dash light issues
Make sure the low+high boost sensor is plugged in and still has a feed for manifold pressure-- seemed to work for me

Hi, KiwiCruz doesnt that boost sensor have 2 ends for vac lines to plug, do you have both ends hooked up and if so how, and egr diagram would be great in hindsight more careful removal would have helped
Thanks

Hi Allen
The low+ high boost sensor only has one feed.
I have it coming off the turbo to wastegate actuator line -after a boost controller that way you dont get the overboost light coming on.

Thanks Kiwi
I will get the old man to check it out it is on his truck,
Did you fit a boost controller with the IC , I just plumbed a line from the waistgate to the intake as that instruction came with my kit

Hello Allen
Yes installed boost controller when ic was put in and upped the boost slightly

I pulled my EGR about a year ago, and just this week my glow plug light went off while driving (with no apparent effect). After shorting TE1 and E1 in the diagnostics connector, it turns out it's the same code for the EGR system as in this thread - 71. I checked the wiring and vacuum hoses for the two VSVs for the EGR system (which were tied together), and it looks fine. Thought I'd post here to see if other folks have ideas for what could cause this, while I continue to dig through FSMs and the Internet for more ideas.

I've looked into this briefly to prepare for an EGR removal as well. The glow plug light in the 95-97 HDJs w/EGR is controlled by the emissions ECU which has a couple inputs and outputs, controlling a number of of VSVs for the emission system but it also does a few other things such as running SICS/BACS, the tach, the intake heater and dash indicators for glow plug and turbo pressure. So if removing/disconnecting any part of the EGR system that is part of a diagnostic circuit you'd have to make sure to keep the ECU happy, either by keeping the relevant circuits connected or using bridges/resistors to "simulate" normal operating conditions to prevent DTCs.

There's a supplemental 1HD-FT emissions control repair manual ERM111E which would be important to look into details of specific DTCs and operating conditions, unfortunately I don't think its available for free online so one would have to get into the Toyota TechDoc system for it.

Update: Found that @gilmorneau has uploaded pictures of that manual here: De-smogging a FT - injection pump question - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/de-smogging-a-ft-injection-pump-question.1292707/#post-14730599

Update on my situation - I've not had the glow plug light, light up again. I'll keep an eye on it. That said I'm not driving the truck like I was because I've sprung a separate issue to sort out (small lower radiator hose coolant leak).

I realized I had the ERM111E manual as a much more usable PDF on my computer already because @gilmorneau uploaded it to the Resources section of MUDF: https://forum.ih8mud.com/resources/repair-manual-for-emission-control-1hd-ft.147/. It does detail some items to check to make sure the system is working. If this light comes on again I'll start going through those.

When I did my EGR removal I did it the same as @gilmorneau's post here - tying the vacuum hoses together.
