My girlfriend has a 68 Ford Mustang. It was her first car and was a gift from mommy.... Anyway, I am trying to identify what package this car has because the g/f says she knows it is a special ("rare") model but does not know what it is called.

Here is a brief description:

Exterior oddities-
1.Unusual "scoops" on the either side behind driver and passenger doors.
2. HERE IS THE MOST PUZZLING PART OF THE CAR-On the front grill where there is typically one "Mustang" symbol (the horse, not the word) in the center of the grill there are TWO... one on either side of the front grill. Now I have seen Mustangs with a fog light on either side of the grill but not one with two symbols... And it looks stock-not like some dummy tacked on an extra he had lying around.
3. The other puzzling badge-Near the rear of the car there is a badge that says "Mustang GT". It too looks original.
4. The hood has a small air scoop on it.

Engine-Ford 302 with Air conditioning and power steering...?? The motor sounds like a VERY powerful beast and driving it backs that up-it SCREAMS...

Transmission-Automatic, I THINK its a 4 speed...

It is not a fast-back, it is a coupe. It is not a GT-500 (I wish), it resembles the "California Special" but has no fog lights, spoiler, or stripes.

So is this car just a typical Mustang that has been altered, or can anyone tell me otherwise?

OR Can anyone tell me what to look for to determine what this car is?

Thanks....

I can get pics and the VIN tonight.

I will post up after work....

It may be a dealer package like the California Special or Colorado Special. Often they would add appearance items like the side scoops. By hood scoop do you mean the 2 rear facing scoops with the turn signals? Do you have a center console around the shifter? How about a roof console with the reading lights? I think you may have a GT-A that was decked out by a dealer. Oh - and the tranny is a 3 speed C-4. Four speed autos weren't available till the 80's.

I got held up with the pictures.... I will try to post them today.

Thanks for all of the great info....
