Dweller on the Threshold
heat. I just ordered a pot belly railroad station wood/coal
heater for the cabin. 200,000 btu. :hillbilly:
It ought to be here just in time for Thanksgiving.
The plan is to have an old fashion Christmas party for the family at the cabin.
Cedar Christmas tree and candle/lantern lights. Roaring fire in the
fireplace and pot of vittles simmering on the pot belly stove. Yee Haa.
MC8-1 (539 x 407).webp

Are you planning on an expansion...200,000 btu's, you'll be sittin outside while the stove cooks the inside....Just kiddin...nice lookin stove, where did you find it at?

Is the fireplace out of order?? I saw a guy on this old house who repairs old chimneys so you can use your fireplace again...basically goes in and puts a balloon in the chimney then pours concrete around the balloon to seal up any cracks in the chimney and you're able to use it again....pretty sweet set up.

I'm sure that BTU is for fully loaded with coal. ;)
I plan on keeping my 90 year old parents warm. :)
I can always just burn a few logs to keep the chill off.
The fireplace works great but it is on one side of the cabin
and they are drafty when used. The stove will go on the other side of the cabin.
I ordered the stove from Bivens Hardware here on Main Street in Pickens.
I always say "If Bivens can't get it...you don't really need it.". :hillbilly:

That is one badass cabin!!! I'd love to have something like that - oh to dream!!! How much property is it on? You, Sir, have just made me a little bit green with envy - awesome stove by the way.

It's at the end of my driveway and visible from my house but not to any rubber neckers.
It's all on a small tract of land in Pumpkintown. Very secluded.

You need a "Church Warden's" pipe to go with that stove - - about 14 inchs long! That's some fine living right there! Put a kettle on top of that thing and heat up some cowboy coffee with a little jack d. for sweetener.

What's that they say about great minds? ;)
Lynn and I were talking about cooking the weekend breakfast
down at the cabin. Coffee from the perk pot we use for camping.
Dang, I need to hookup with Steve for some REAL coffee to
break 'er in right! Bacon, eggs and hashbrowns made on the
grill griddle. Mmmmmm good.

I'll help ya break it in next week....

Perfect timing my man! I'm due to pick up the stove on Weds and think I'll need some help
unloading it and installing the thing. ;)
I'll have to cut a hole in the tin roof and install a flashing and "top hat" to
finish it off. It will be a straight pipe so it shouldn't be difficult.
Can't wait to see you and the misses. Hope Brother Barry gets to come.
When we spoke the other day he expressed interest in coming up with ya'll.
I think it was Lynn's Thanksgiving Feast that had him expressing such interest. :grinpimp:
:beers: on me!

Get yer butt on up here!

to much relief

of my neighbors and Chuck
I didn't set Ptown on fire when
I built a fire in the fireplace
today. :hillbilly:
Sad to say it is pitiful at warming
the cabin. How in the heck those
Pioneers endured is beyond me!
Guess they wore a LOT of layers.
We cleared a lot of brush today
and discovered some old stone
steps. I can't wait to wheel the
1/10 crawlers on 'em. ;)
Gained a view of Table Rock too.
Added a couple of jugs to the
Jug Bar as well. My Mexican
labor brought me fine bottle
of tequila to fill one of the jugs.
Ola! Straight outta ole Mexico.
:hillbilly: gotta get some limes
and salt.

you read my mind!

I'm going to keep a bag of
coal handy. Nothing pumps
the BTUs like ol smelly nasty
coal, plus it would be fittingly
"Period" to the cabin.
Yesterday a girl stopped by to
see where her grandpa lived
as a child.
I gave her a board I found when
remodeling that was inside a wall
that her pappy had signed.
She about cried. :hillbilly:

So is that an origional cabin, or did you build it? I had a pot belly stove that I bought when I was a teenager for $10. Kept it for quite a while thinking i would build a cabin one day. It was an Atlanta Iorn Works stove. I sold it for $75 a couple of years later,
probably to buy beer. Cool cabin! post some pics of the inside.

Atlanta made stove sounds cool.
I'll bet it's keeping some place
warm even now.
Cabin is an original.
Pic thread of resto is called " 2nd
Sat in Oct " in this forum.
Scroll a ways down and you'll
find it.

That place is awesome! I wish I could find something like that on about 10 acres over in Oconee Co. SC. Me and a couple of buddies hav been wanting something like that for 20 years. That corner of SC is one of the best, realitvely undiscoverd areas left in the south. I love it up there. Great job on your cabin!

I see firewood! Stop what your doing now and go get some coal. That will run you out of the cabin.

Love the stained glass.

Have you thought about pulling some insulation on the ceiling and covering it with rough sawn lumber?

Can you believe that NOBODY sells coal in Pickens. Go figure.
I found a source in Greenville. Go figure.
The stain glass is neat. It is Table Rock which as you know is my view. :grinpimp:
I'm trying to stay primative so no insulation. Dis here place is for hardy souls.
Pioneer stock stuff. ;)
