The front passenger fender flare almost popped off in my hand the other day. I am really thinking about pulling the trigger and pulling these darn things off. However I am not really to have the holes welded and two tone with bedliner. Has anyone pulled their flares and wished they had left them on? Any tools or tricks to get them off without causing damage?

Thanks

I just ripped them off and drilled the rivets out :meh: :hillbilly:

On the fenders, there are also bolts that the plastic is secured to.

I still ripped them off, loosed the outer bolt, recovered the concealed nut from lower inner fender.

I knew they were worthless in WTS unless in pristine condition, and mine were a 6 of 10, plus LX Pink. They actually came off with very few clips damaged.

Took me six months to god someone to give them to.

Since early and no one else it thread jacking.

Pulled mine almost a year ago and welded holes, with intention to paint, primered the welded area.

Welds aren't good enough to paint and she's become more of a rock donkey (as much as a station wagon can be) so opted for liner.

Still deciding liner color.....

Gray or Tan liner I thinks those two colors look awesome in a white LC80

She's a Pink Panty 80, but tan, too match interior, or white are the contenders.

Plan to line to the upper body line, so white would be easier, since would require door handle removal. (Inner doors have deadener adhered to. Nightmare to get back in there)

Would I have any issues if I pull them off and dont plug the holes right away? We are still in the rain season here in Idaho.

Front I wouldn't worry so much. Rear doors & quarter panel I would worry some more. I used some liquid aluminum stuff to plug mine with some weather tape until I get around to properly filling and painting. my .02

Me, too. All 162 of them.

Do you have a thread on how you did it? Where did you get the liquid aluminum and weather tape at?

Thanks

Mine were mostly cleared by the trail naturally. and the rest I just tore off and drilled out the rivets. The aluminum stuff I just picked up at the local hardware store. Same as the tape, just found some 3m stuff. The liquid aluminum comes out like toothpaste. Just kept dabbing in the holes and lightly sanded flush. One day I will sand better, primer and paint.

This will protect it from getting water behind the fender? Thanks again for all the help.

You used to be able to buy Toyota flaps for fenderless rigs. But I think they stopped making them. Maybe you can still find some? I would say fxxx mud flaps too, but Ih8mud.

Yeah I have never ran any on my other rigs (88 Toy SAS & CJ2A) but now that we live in Idaho it seems like the sand/salt or whatever they put on the roads really eat up the rigs. I thought that mud flaps would help keep the road crap off the under carriage.
