what is your DD now? how much can you get for it ?

what can you get for your 40?

how many miles do you put on the DD per day now?

I use my 40 for a DD...i have for the past 18 years...

some things were the key to make my rig a good DD...

4 wheel disk
power steering
electronic ignition
dual batteries
soft springs

I used to put 25,000-28,000 miles on per year...for about 10 years?...i moved alot closer to work, 1.7 miles :) now i dont rack up the miles as much

Store the 40 for now, when time opens up later bring it back to life.
Really need to think about what you want to do as far as wheeling goes.
Exploring? Then follow the herd and get an 80. (Bette and I see one in our yard within the next 2-3 years)
Rock crawling? Keep the 40. I love being able to work on the 40, try stuff, repair. Wheeling, I can run it and I don't worry about body damage. ( I hate to break stuff, but dents are ok) An 80 will walk all over my 40 but those body repairs can get costly.

Lane

From where I sit the body on my truck looks fine. :flipoff2: the guy in the next lane.

I just dropped my insurance to just cover damage done to other vehicles. The 80s have dropped in price to a point where it's cheaper to just replace it.

More and more people are getting into locked 80s for around 2500.00, it just takes a little time and some luck.

Yep.....totally unexpected.

wow really i saw that coming from a mile away:D ricks just pissed he cant fit into a 40...or my basement, i love being a short little s***

Bahh if you've got a rig now that you like, keep it. If the issue is about having time to tinker with your stuff your gonna have it with any vehicle 80's included. If you want something else try and get rid of her. But if its just about having time, put her on the back burner for as long as you need. I don't think anyone here is gonna suggest you go cruiserless, we all wanna see yah out some time rippin it up. But no rush man just do what makes you happy.

Like many have said...keep the 40, sell off the extra parts you do not need, and keep it stored for you to tinker on it from time to time. Then when the kids are ready, they will learn to wrench/drive on daddy's rig...now what could be cooler than that!

Not at all. It's about time management. My 80 was dual purpose for quite a while and tinkering with it meant no loss time working on my DD.

Having a dedicated wheeler wasn't a luxury I could afford until recently. So a slow build while getting to work everyday was all I could do. I had responsibilities to people who depended on me to provide food and shelter.

I've held down a full time job for 25 years straight, and while there were times that I had no time for recreational wrenching I was able to still enjoy a cruiser. And by that I mean driving one, not moth balled in the barn.

When considering my life style and what I want a truck to do for me a 40 is a complete waste of time and money.

See.... there's no way we can answer your quest for you. Take the above statement, and change the "40" to an "80" and it applies to me. They're nice trucks, but you couldn't give me one.

My current stable (see sig) is perfect for me. Although, it wouldn't break my heart to swap the Highlander for a double-cab Tacoma (pre-05).

I guess this was more of what I was tryin to get at. =)
