For those of you who know me, you know you have not seen me in awhile. I am busy with home and work and keeping up with all things Land Cruiser is getting relegated to the "later" category. But if I am going to stay with the Cruiser, I WILL make the time.

But I cannot let go of the facination I have with these vehicles, so I am soliciting opinion based on your personal lifestyle and experiences of what to do.

I know, sounds like a soft topic, but hey... we all need help once in awhile.

These are my current options:

1. Sell my 40 and just get out of it until I can dedicate the time.
2. Sell the 40, sell my car, buy an 80 or newer and call it a day.
3. Fix up the 40 for daily use, sell the car.
4. Buy a pickup and trailer, make a buggy out of the 40, sell the car.

Other ideas are welcome.

Anyway, poll incoming

you own the 40, why sell it.

Keep the 40, store it where it wont rot, keep the DD car. Wheel the 40 when you find time.

x3 or whatever...

I see it as a yin and yang deal. I have a Cruiser of some sort and a fast daily driver car. Both are great fun to drive. I'd use one for a while then run the other for a change. I can't recommend just a 40 as an only vehicle. The ice melt in the winter alone is reason enough to have two vehicles! I certainly miss cruising around in the topless 40 on warm evenings; the FJ62 I have now just isn't quite the same. I bet you will regret selling the 40 at this point.

80's are cheap now sell the cookie cutter by an 80 a store the 40 for a later date
on a side note i thought i would never get rid of my 4runner once i got my 80 and started driving it i wrenches came out to part the 4runner

DD the 40. That will really help you keep the addiction.

Just out of curiosity, what are the specs on the 40?
1972 Toyota Land Cruiser
4' Black Diamond Lift Kit (old and rather stiff now, but it does not sag)
brand new OEM Clutch
Tiger Top
33" TRXUS MT, less than 2000 miles on them on crappy 15" rims
Besides that, quite stock.

Jose,

Good to hear from you, you forgot to add laptop desk to your list of mods........... :D

You need to add to the poll:

#5 Give away 40 and do something else...........

Now is not the time to sell, may as well keep it. I know every time I've liquidated in the past I've regretted it later on...........but at least there was financial gain at the time.......no point in giving stuff away though. :meh:

clean up the 40 and sell it. Get what it's worth +, don't whore it out. Then buy an 80.

I want to

haul gear, building materials, ladders and such
tow a small camper
seat 4 and have plenty of cargo space for gear inside
be comfortable on long drives to alternative wheeling spots outside a plot of land in Swansey NH.
because of the long drives I would like the safety of air bags.

When considering my life style and what I want a truck to do for me a 40 is a complete waste of time and money.

I really can't think of a better all around Land Cruiser then the 80. Totally comfortable for short or long road trips, cargo capasity, personal comfort, towing, good weather or bad, and hugely capable offroad with a few mods. "New" enough to be reasonably DD reliable even.

But I'm biased as I just joined the cult myself. :D

Hi Jim,

Do something else? Like what... jeep? YUCK! ;-)

Trade your 25 for my 40? lol j/k, but not really.
Funny thats what I have my 4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son say everytime they see a jeep. Keep the 40 store till you have the time eventually there will be time my 40 has been stored for 4 yrs now waiting for the kids to get a little bigger at least until they know what tools to hand me.

You could always buy a BJ70 for a daily driver.......

Didn't think we would get this kind of response from you Rick. ;p

Well, it's not like I haven't owned other Cruisers. It's just the 80 is more versatile than the rest. It would be hard for me to find time a few years ago for a hobby/play truck but I did have time for my DD. I slowly worked on it a little at a time and then when my time opened up I got to enjoy it for things other than driving to the lumber yard and getting materials for some honey do project.
