I have a 92 80 but I thought I'd post up here and see what I got. I have a 92 with 200,000 miles and is now my DD. I'm going 500 miles a week and am looking to get the most MPG and top end as possible.

New plugs, wires, cap and air filter our in order. I also need to change the fuel filter.

How do I adjust me Throttle cable? It clunks when I let of the gas.

What else can I do. I know the tranny sucks alot of power. What service can I do to help?

Anything else I can do I make me rig run better?

If you are doing 500 miles a week, you might want to get a commuter vehicle. My $0.02 I think the best you can hope for is 15-16 mpg with a light foot.

My trusty DD Focus died at 150.000 miles two weeks ago. So now im stuck with the 80.

Check you throttle cable bracket to make sure it isn't bent. Press accelerator pedal to the metal and see if the valve in the throttle body is completely open. If so, you're good. If not, adjust by checking the distance from the end of the rubber boot to the stopper. It's supposed to be within 1 mm on the FJ80-this info from my Haynes manual.
Congratulations, the FJ80 with 3FE, stock gears and 33's is going to be one of the worst gas mileage vehicles of all time and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

2F bottom end.....should make more torque, don't know about top end though.

Understood, that sucks.

Give it a good tune up. Check your fuel pulsation damper, (60s FAQ) others have reported a gain in mpg in tightening the screw if it is loose. Make sure the throttle kick-down cable for the tranny is adjusted fairly tight (this will give you better seat of the pants feeling) try restoring it to OE sized tires if you have over sized, this will improve performance, work the engine less, and theoretically cut the air resistance a touch by lowing the vehicle. Remove anything that hurts airflow (after market roof rack?). Drive as slow as you can stand, I notice a big difference with my 62 between driving 70 and 80 mph. Another thing to consider with the 80 is that you have full time AWD, whereas those of us with 62s have part time. You could look into a part time kit, but I doubt the cost would be offset during the life of the vehicle.....
