Hey guys. I am sure this will be a very easy question for most of yall to answer. The knowledge on this site is very much appreciated!

I bought a 60 that had most of the engine accessories disassembled. They PO installed a new head gasket and had the head and valves done at a machine shop. Long story short, he ran out of time to reassemble and get it running again so now I have it.

I have never worked on these engine before so I have been relying on the wealth of information on this site to reassemble everything correctly. I think I have got it put back together but it is not getting spark. Upon further investigation I found this single wire with a black plug on it from the distributor which appears to be a ground. I cant locate any other plug that would go here. I couldnt find any instructions on the distributor anywhere. Anybody know what this wire is for or where it goes?

The green plug is the red and white wire from the distributor.

Thanks in advance!

that is not an OEM distributor, I don't recall ever seeing a distributor with another pigtail out of it.
not a whole lot of help.

As noted that's not the original distributor that came with the truck. Also the original ignition was electronic that used an igniter that was bolted on top of the coil (as shown in pic below)

I'm wondering if thats the earlier points distributor.

Thanks in advance!

The Black Connector in your Hand Is a Ground wire Circuit Connection Point

Much like the 19100-61180 that @Seth S is showing a example of in his Post

it terminates on a eye ring at your vacuum advance diaphragm location on the distributor body

Forget about trying to source the Female Mating Connector from toyota , i tried hard a few years ago and it was NLA in the USA

or Globally

But it is the same Connector that comes on a FJ60 Choke Cable , so if u can find a old CORE one , your set

, your Should have hooked up , since u have a nice big insulating o-ring around main contact point of the Aluminum Dist. body

a added Ground wire is a Great Idea , no different the the Additional one Phased into the Oil Pressure sending Unit in 8/80-Later 2F

make sure u use a Locking Type Latching connectors housings so No vibration Off

here is the correct needed Connector as -is now , still have a few left

So Ive had time to do some testing on the ignition system and here is what I've found out.
The coil has 0.9-1.0 ohms on the primary windings and 7k ohms on the secondary windings. With key in ignition and in the ON position I get 0.0 volts on the + and - of the coil. I can get 12v at the + of the coil if I ground to chassis.
I cannot get 12v at the coi through the - side of the coil and the + at the battery with key ON.

Is there anything else I should test? The ohm readings of the coil look to be in the acceptable range but the ground at the coil has me wondering if I'm doing something incorrectly.

Thanks!

Also forgot to mention, I hooked up my multimeter to the 2 wires going to the distributor and got 0.0 volts while cranking.
I'm thinking about picking up a new coil and a GM ignitor today and just troubleshooting one part at a time.
