So I'm looking for a good thick oil to put in my old fj40 gear box to help on noise. I'll be adding a rubber mat later and some sound deeding mat's later. What oil should I use? Also for the axles?

Thanks gator. Defs wanna run a 4 in older car manual gearboxes, especially these.Just something you may already know, the GL rating defines how much pressure (or load between gears) it can take. GL-1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. GL-5 oils have high pressure additives that attack bright metals, such as copper, brass and bronze.
How did it turn out ? I have a whine in my transmission before and after rebuilding ? I looked up the Lucas products and cant see much for manual transmissions ? i put 90/140 in 'er and still not much difference . I used to know a fella who could get the whine out of anything ...........To report back. I just put 700mL of Lucas Oil Stabiliser into the gearbox and another 700mL into the transfer. There's a significant diminishment in the whine! Totally noticeable! I'll run this for a few more miles, then will drain gearbox and transfer and refill with fresh 85W-90 GL4 and this gear again. Will go with their recommendations: 30% in gearbox and up to 50% in the transfer case. I'll go 50%.
