The new GR starter arrived yesterday. The old starter has what looks to be two black/white wires. Which of the two would go to the new starter?

Out of the two small wires, one comes from the ignition switch (start) and triggers the solenoid to engage the starter. The other is for ballast resistor bypass. The GR starter doesn’t have the aux contacts & terminal for the bypass. If you want to keep the resistor bypass functional you’d have to add a relay. I added a relay when I had a resistor, but I believe most just do without it.

As far as which is which, you could test with a meter or test lamp. The one you’d hook to the new starter would be hot when the ignition switch is in the “Start” position.

"A" is the solenoid signal wire from the switch; this will be the wire used on the new GR starter.

Thanks. I installed the starter and all I get is a high pitched whining sound. Sounds like it’s not engaging. One thing after another. Frustrating!!

What did you end up doing to get the starter motor to engage the flywheel?

Don
