I picked the perfect day (40 mph wind, no garage) to change the transmission and TCase oil for the first time on my 60. I've read on Mud that if the seal between the two is shot that the TCase may be dry and the transmission overfull. So I drained the TCase first, got about 2 quarts out. Then I pulled the filler plug on the Transmission to get flood of oil, at least a quart. The drain plug yielded another four or so quarts. I don't have any way to really measure it, half of it is on my driveway. The cruiser hadn't been driven for a few days.

Here are my questions: Does it sound like the seal ?
Or is there anyway to overfill the two (Since I think I had at least two gallons shoot out)?
If the seal, how big is the problem (driveable, etc) ?
I have heard about linking the two through the filler holes, is this a good solution?

Thanks in advance for advice.

the only way I can think of to overfill the trans is through the shifter tower, so yeah it's prolly the seal. If your trans/transfer are in good operating order otherwise, i'd be inclined to run a return hose and call it good

Drain back hose is a good long term solution.

X2... use clear tubing so you can visualy see the oil level without pulling a plug....
