gates reg. hose ok- phh?? real time did search

hi,

ok, so ALMOST real time-- doing phh, flush, etc tomorrow and have all lined up, but now can't find green stripe hose in all of dayton! will gates reg. hose be ok for phh-- gates site says 60psi and 257 F rated... should be ok?

Gates will work fine - most people go with the HD Green Stripe or Silicone because it's such a PITA they don't want to do it again ever.

Look up hydraulic shops in the yellow pages. They carry heavy duty hose, and very well may have the gates green stripe. You can also lookup the shops that repair big rigs - semi trailer trucks. They use heavy duty heater hose.

Surely there is a NAPA in Dayton and I believe they stock the Green Stripe in most of their stores. Call ahead. Regular heater hose will also work.

I used the Goodyear HD red hose. No runs, no leaks, no errors.

CarQuest has the green stripe hose, at least my local CarQuest has.

When I did the PHH on my grey '96 I had to do some running around to get the parts I wanted. Don't get discouraged.

CarQuest had the best price on silicone heater hose.
Napa had the fully sleeved hose clamps - but only at their 'hub' store and I had to buy a box of them. Don't use 'standard' hose clamps on silicone as the silicone will extrude through the holes where the things tighten. The sleved ones have an extra length of flat metal band that goes around a 2nd time inside the clamp. Go with stainless and spend the extra 10 cents per clamp.

CarQuest was so much lower on the hose price that I bought 6' of it. Now to find the time to do it to the red '96 that I got a month ago.

Don't even think about trying to be nice to the factory clamps. I used a miniature pair of SnapOn dykes (4"). Others have been able to get a Dremel in there.

I feel sorry for your arms. When you do the 2nd bolt on the back of the block you'll understand.
