Hello, new to this forum. Have been considering a Toyota(American version) conversion to diesel for some time. I am not interested in the 2L, considering the HP won't suffice for me to pull my alum. fishing boat. I have seen a number of recommendations, mostly from Landcruiser folks, that advise the use of the 1KZTE, 3L, or 5L. I've read that the 1KZTE may be hard to obtain in the States, but I have seen TCANUTA's motors on ebay, so I know that there are 3L's in the States.
My questions:

1.) What year, 2wd or 4wd, Toyota trucks will best serve me?(must be 5spd)

2.)What are the compatability issues, especially transmission?(have read the bell housing bolt patterns from the engine side are the same for R series and L series motors)

3.)Can half cuts be obtained for the mentioned diesels?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

They should be. But I am not aware if the RZ engine bellhousing mates to any L series engines. Someone on here should know.

As per the year, nothing ever beat an 1985 which had the R series.
