gas smell at start

Hey folks:

93 FZJ80 with recent HG replacement. I've had an inconsistent low idle issue that comes and goes at start-up, but I also recently noticed a brief strong smell of fuel at start-up. I can't isolate whether it is coming from the rear or the engine bay, but I DO get a little whiff in the cab. The odor disappears after about 10-20 seconds.

I've looked under the hood and can't see any obvious fuel leaks around the injectors, fuel line, filter, etc.

Any guesses?

I had the same problem. Mine was related to improperly installed injector bushings. I had gasoline visible leaking from injectors 3 and 4.

Might alos want to check your oxygen sensors. There are two one in front and one behind the catalytic converter. The engine might be over mixing gas to air. Could bump your mileage up also.
