Hey Guys,

I have spent the last 3 months putting all new hoses, belts, water pump, and gaskets on my 1984 FJ60 2F. I now am looking at modifying the intake/exhaust systems to increase gas mileage and torque. I need input as to the most effective way to spend my money and time. Thank you so much.

Rebuilding the carb and doing a desmog will net you the greatest MPG gain right off the bat.

Do mean to came across as a dick, but dude! You have a Land Cruiser! You can spend a ton of time and money trying to get good gas mileage, or you could just spend that time with your friends and family, and spend that money on gas.

I did a Desmog on mine because the smog system was causing all sorts of issues. She runs better than she ever has, and gets 15 mpg in the city now!!! I love it. but she was getting 12 mpg in the city before all that. In my mind, i would not spend a a ton of money to get 1 or 2 better mpg's. And it did not cost me much to do the desmog, the most expensive part was having the carb and dizzy reworked by JimC.

So if you really want to spend money on mpg's, do a desmog... assuming you can do that where you live.

Just my .02

I got the cheap 6 to one header and got a great improvement in drivability and a couple mpgs. I bet the header, and a carb/dizzy rebuild ,would get you the most mpgs that are realisticly available.

Ian:

Consider coming up to a High Desert Club meeting sometime, you can pick those guys brains in person. Some real smart dudes in the club.

Technically you could desmog, but then you'd be illegal once you graduated & moved somewhere bigger (like Abq) for a job.
