I have had this thing for well... years. Is is still a usable unit? I know technology has changed since I bought it. I haven't even turned it on in nearly a year. Should I be shopping for a new model? If anyone else still owns/uses this model, do you do the updates from Garmin?

It depends what you want it to do. It will still provide an adequate signal for use with PC mapping software.

It takes a lickin...

I still use mine because it hasn't given me a reason not to. 24h battery life, built-in voltmeter, it is my backup tracker. I use a tablet to do the mapping work.

Been wanting to upgrade to a 60csx but not really in a hurry to.

I like these Garmins (II, III, V) because the rs232 driver is strong enough to feed multiple devices. I made a "splitter" and run the NMEA output into a laptop & ham radio. I still use a Garmin II+ bought in 1999.
