The LX450 ARE FZJ80's !!!

Good to see the newbies catching up on a little reading of old posts before coming out of lurk mode.

:D

who cares?

my wife hates the LX comments to, but here is what i have found:

cruiser's we looked at were in general a lot more used and a lot more neglected. LXs were often babied and serviced at proper intervals.

we purchased our 97LX450 about 2 years ago, pristine, with 86k mi and from the feel of the t-case it had never been shifted into neutral let alone L. it took about 15min of driving to engage the lockers the first time, leading me to believe that it had been a long time, if ever that they had been used. (now they engage in 2sec :)

so, imho, i got a much newer, better maintained used vehicle, period. isn't that what we all want?

additionally, it is fun to see people's expressions when you climb things they can't, crawl through things they balk at, and wade through things they cringe looking at, all in a 'luxury' car :)

No, no...

I'm just a Toyota historian and have noticed that the data plate does indeed say FZJ80 on the 450's...

I agree with your point. They're the same vehicles.

Digging this thread out of the dirt . . .

Has anyone removed the flares and body cladding from a LX450? How is the cladding attached?

IIRC, the flares are the same as the LC.

The flares are held on but plastic and metal rivet-like metal pieces that bolt through the body from inside of the body.

I just tore them off with brute force, drilled out the rivets and die grinded some of them off and welded in the holes.

The LX's have the cladding, leaving about 200 holes in the sides that need to be filled, taped and the liner of choice needs to cover a larger area.

Thanks. I figured the cladding was adhered but wasn't sure. Not worth it then.

It is also adhered.

Just to add one more difference that wasn't specifically mentioned earlier: In addition to the windshield being a different tint (bronze on the LX vs blue on the LC), the rest of the glass is the same. And (at least according to Safelite), the bronze door glass is NOT available aftermarket and must be ordered from the Lexus dealership. Their database incorrectly lists the blue tint for the LX doors, but does have the bronze for the windshield.

nope. the cost is the exactly the same according to my insurance man.

Insurance quotes from my company were exactly the same for either LC or LX450.

actually kind of freaked my guy out a bit. "in my 30 years of insurance have I ever seen 2 different cars pull the same rate".

The windshield and DS and PS front are all bronze.
I'm not sure about the tinted glass in the rear.

I went through safelite and (at least in my area) they told me they could get the bronze, but I'd have to wait a few days.
It could be due to regional availability or maybe they simply don't carry it anymore -- my door glass was replaced a couple years ago.

As a note, both rear sliding windows on my LX open.
