So do I just need to install the switch or do I need to change axels, or what?

Install the switch if you want to manually control the CENTER DIFF. If you don't have elockers (front/rear/dial on the dash) and want them them yes, swap axels, retrofit, etc.

You don't probably "need" front/rear lockers. you can get the switch for manual control of the center diff locker, if you want. If you want front/rear e-lockers you could pony up a couple thousand bucks to make it happen, or you could get some pneumatic actuated ARB for a little less, or an auto locker of some sort for less than that.
My guess would be, that you would be best served by just driving it, and enjoying it as-is.

Thanks for all of the info guys! Your info helped me make a decision & I bought an LX-450 yesterday.
My HJ-61 will be up for sale next week.

I guess it boils down to personal preference on what you get, but I was just wondering if someone who has had both might chime in and tell of their experience comparing the two, the LX and the FZJ. Even though I can find an LX cheaper, I'm still leaning towards a cruiser.

Ive had both, although my LC was a 91. I prefer my LX big time.

I like the land cruiser badge and status better than the LX, however the LX is quieter and has a better ride (softer coils), and a better stock sound system. I've had 1 LX450 and about 10 FZJ80's. LX hands down.

Couldn't buy an LC originally from here. Always wanted to wheel a Lexus, but didn't want to deal with the crappy cd player, and plastic moulding. I hear the leather is better though.
I would have bought either if the price was right, ended up with a 95 LC and couldn't be happier.

I will be buying one of these two but can't really make up my mind...
One is a 97 FZJ80 40th Edition completely stock around 80K and with factory lockers
the other one a 97 LX450 110 K factory lockers, ARB front and rear tire carrier and a OME 2.5" lift
also has some weird leather color interior
added some pics what would do you guys recommend...

Where are you located?

That 40th would be worth a lot of money here in the states. I'd MUCH rather own that one, personally, but then I'd be afraid to tear it up wheeling too.

I'm in Taiwan where Land Cruisers are rare like unicorns, and pricey both are in the 28tsd US$ region.....
Also leaning towards the 40th Ann. cause is completely untouched,
My plan is just adding a OME lift, ProComp steel rims, 255/85 R16's and rear bumper single swing out with tire holder ( 4x4Labs )
pretty basic no real rip apart modding...

I am trying make the same decision. I saw 2 40th anniversary LCs at a used car dealer in Detroit last weekend. One was 3x locked and had 290k on the clock, plus dings and small amounts of body rust. The other didn’t have lockers and had 200k on the clock but was in better shape. Limited frame rust on both.

Unless you're obsessed with having the factory lockers, I would go with the better condition non-locked truck. Missing lockers are easier to remediate than rust.
