Uh, no.

That's a tire iron.

But hey, if it works. :meh:

Perhaps it's multi-purpose? Because it fits perfectly into the horizontal slot in the wheel cap and the angle of the lip pries it out perfectly.

HA HA HA... the tool Impreza showed *IS* the Toyota tool for removing the 'decorative' cap - read the User's Manual if you need more clarification...

It's certainly NOT a tyre iron and if it was it would be useful for at most a bicycle. I have real tyre irons in my patrol and they are a tad larger than that :)

cheers,
george.

Should this thread be added to the FAQ?

I just spit iced tea out all over my keyboard, I needed a good laugh today, thanks:flipoff2:

I can't wait for the upcoming "How do I get the hood open" thread. Something like-

So, I pulled the handle by the driver's left knee and the gas door popped open. I then pulled the other one and heard a clunk noise, but the hood didn't open like the gas door. It just kind lifted 1/2 an inch. Is there some kind of special tool to jimmy in the small opening that will release the hood?"

To the OP- I am just having a little fun. Good luck with your 80, lots of fun stuff to mod in the future.

Let the sh*t storm begin...

This is an epic thread... before it gets moved to chat, please someone keep this going with tech, as I have nothing to add. Between OEM tools and color combos, I'm laughing too hard...

cheers,

Joel

I have no problem admitting I'm often a complete doofus.

I knew both my 92 Cruiser *and* my 82 4X4 longbed pick-up had one of these; somehow I just figured they were (near worthless) tire iron's , similar to the "spark-plug removal" tool in the pick-up.

Check the manuals, and whaddaya know: They're "wheel hub ornament" and "wheel ring" (chrome trim at the outer end of the rim, which I don't have) removal tools.

Who knew? :meh:

Hey, we've all been a little doofussy now and then.

And you are exactly right! Even in the latest iteration of the Land Cruiser - the vaunted 2013 200 series, the tool kit contains a "wheel ornament remover:"

Its proper use is described on page 639 of the Owner's Manual:

I guess, over the years, Toyota have found it hard to improve on perfection ;)

Revive this silly thread

We could hijack this thread into: "Show me your blingy-est center caps!!
These were "OEM" from the PO!!
They were part of the "Gold Package"...the upcharge was $600:eek:
Gold on the front and back sombreros!
Gold on the antenna base!
Gold on the center caps!:p
I'll bet it adds at LEAST 2HP, and 5mph to the top speed!
Can't believe they stayed on this long!:steer:
OK...I win!! These bastards have got to be the blingy-est!

Oh, wait, that didn't come out "gold enough"...
There, that's better!!:D

VERY special material

I'd like an extra special wheel ornament coloration to match the black pearl on my 40th badging. I wonder if there is a color code or is it a special material altogether?
This'll keep it tech...dig this fine literature the PO passed on to me, concerning the "gold pkg"...the plating on the rig is genuine 24 carat GOLD. Now, that's a VERY special material !!:cool:
You can't get more extra special wheel ornamentation than that :flipoff2:

Should this thread be added to the FAQ?

If we can only figure out what torque the center cap should be tightened to, then it will be FAQ-worthy.

Just removed my center caps and noticed both rear wheels/hubs are missing the center bolt that the fronts have. Is this normal? See attached pics of front and rear for comparison.

I need to post an intro but recently rescued a stock 95 with 140k (my first LC). Excited to give the mall cruiser a second life!
