Yeah, the kids and I are really enjoying it. Sunny spring days were made for the 40. Had a great time in Moab, but the wheeling in NM was even more fun. (thread here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/nm-high-desert-cruisers/275517-broken-albuquerque-wheeling-anyone.html )

Thanks. I don't have the truck here now or I would have posted some more pics. We ended up painting it in a real hurry and had a couple flaws. I didn't care but the paint shop that did the work wouldn't let it go like that so they're repainting it now. EDIT 9-6-10: Repaint quality by showcase was poor - needs new paint again.
I'll try to get pics some time soon... not having the truck in the warm weather is killing me...

Some interior pics - Please note that I have not turned wrench one on this truck since I loaded it on the trailer for Moab back in March - so there are some things left unfinished. For example you can see the hazard switch dangling from the dash above the blank into which it needs to installed... Yeah, honestly I'm having too much fun driving it to pull it into the shop for even minor work.
I need to build the column cover, and tighten the driver upper hinge bolts which are falling out because we never finish aligned/torqued them. The line-x was sprayed thin and needs to be touched up on the passenger floor where it is lifting due to heat. The dash HVAC vents are all askew because that's just the last rotation we left them at... this is my daily driver.

Yes, and dirty too... Sorry, I wanted to get some pics and the kids are at the beach so no free scrub brush laborers... (my 6 year old son and 4 year old daughter scrub the truck inside and out with a coarse bristle brush because they like to help... hey, I built it for the kids to enjoy, and this is how they enjoy it - scrub away!)
There's room behind the rear seat for a coleman stainless steel cooler to fit perfectly, or an ARB freezer/fridge.
These "inside garage" pics also show how carefully planned the overall length and height of the FZJ40 are - I clear the garage opening by 3/4" and probably have less than 24" to spare between the toolbox and garage door when closed. (which is tight when you think of opening those toolbox drawers!) During the winter when the hard top is on it will need to live outside.

More detail pics... My kids never finish their water bottles.... I put the constant 12v outlet back there specifically for the fridge. Note the position of the marine 12v outlet is in a protected area under the hard top rail and behind the winch controller (thanks Kenny!) - you can't put a toolbag or camping gear on the wheel well and accidentally break off a charger because the outlet is recessed in order to prevent that. The same theory applied to the 12v outlets I put in the console. Logic would dictate placing them at the bottom of the console to preserve inside console space, but by positioning them close to the cupholder the kids don't kick them and break your cell phone charger. Also, one is 12 v constant (wired to aux battery like the one in the back for the fridge) and the other is 12v switched (to the main battery) like the one in the dash for stuff like GPS that you want to come on automatically when you start the car. Yes, I do have 4 power outlets... hey, the kids have nintendo DS and according to them nothing sucks more than having a game of MarioKart ruined by a dead battery...

LOL, not as impressive as it sounds... it's the DD by choice not by force. I do have another car I could drive, I just choose not to!
Honestly the 40 is so much quicker and more maneuverable around town than the diesel it just seems to make sense to drive the Land Cruiser. (Unless I need to haul manure or something... then I drive the ford)

Yeah, that was a ton of work - but it was exactly what I was looking for in terms of keeping the old school look with more modern gauges. The idiot lights at the bottom of the cluster even work. I would like to add another information center - something to show when 2nd Gear Start has been selected, or power mode for the ECT... maybe later... still too nice here in VA to put it away for the winter.

Those tires look huge on your cruiser. How much flex do you have? Those things have to rub like crazy.

Funny, they look small to me now. I was thinking of going bigger...
ok, not really, but it does clear 39's and these are only 37's. They tuck right up into the fender well. The axle and wheel opening are very carefully matched so that the tire is perfectly centered in the huge rear wheel opening. It actually touches front, rear and top of the wheel opening just as the bump stop stops upward travel. Front is much the same. I do use bump stop extensions, and on high speed off road driving I get into them regularly - but only when I'm really driving too fast anyway. Most of the time I don't know they're there. Another inch of lift would completely resolve the issue, and I'm only running OME 861's (.25" lift) so it's easy to do... except that I don't think I could fit it into the garage that way. EDIT 9-6-10: I did go to 2" OME springs and I'm no longer on the bumps... still fits in the garage.

I don't get the insane 48+" of travel I get out of the FJ55 buggy but I do get sick enough travel that my tires rarely leave the ground. I run stock height OME coils with L series shocks (the real reason for the bump stops) - keeps the COG low while maximizing suspension travel.
