Fuel Warning Light is On (hdj81 with 1HDT) Full of Fuel and New Filter

I have 1991 hdj81 with 1HDT. My fuel warning light came ON about two weeks ago, I changed the fuel filter (OEM) last weekend, then I fill up the tank and my fuel warning light is still ON.

I went through 1HD FSM Fuel System section and I am not having luck finding any info

Just wondering if anyone has the issue before? Truck start fine and run normal (truck is idling lower than usual, just little)

Here is the relevant info from the EWD. From a quick look you may have a short to ground somewhere between the light and the sender.

Possibly a stuck float for the sensor in the tank as well.

I'm not sure if the fuel gauge uses the same sending unit as the low fuel light, if yes, I think @Douglas S is on the right track above.

This morning, no light at all, back to normal. Also, yesterday when I fill up, I chose a different gas station “Esso” with very heavy traffic. In the last four years, I never let my tank fuel level go beyond half, but three weeks ago, I run empty.


Am going to check the wiring on the sender unit this weekend

grrr this just happened to me at least the diagram looks simple enough


possibly my fuel sender is stuck too

on the back of the cluster any idea which wire is the ground for the light i think I'm going to start tracing from the back of the cluster to the fuel sender
