I've got my fuel injection installed and working some-what. It purrs when it is idling but as soon as I drive it, the engine starts to back fire and lurch. I read the faqs and am going to have my eprom looked at. But what has me confused is that my oil has a strong gas smell in it. I was wondering if this has anything to do with the wat the cruiser is acting when I drive it? Any thoughts? As soon as I can figure out why I can't post pictures, I will get pics put up of my finished frame-off.:flipoff2:

40/45 I am ASSuming) Do you have the lines running from the original pump on the side of the block? Usually if your pump is leaking (internally) it will dump fuel into your pan. Sorry not too familiar with the fi stuff, but thats my best guess based on the info you have given. Maybe a picture of your setup would help clarify for the guys (more familiar with fi) a bit more. Good luck :)

Howdy! If you are getting a lot of misfires when you throttle up, then the fuel is just washing down the cylinder walls, and some of it drips into the crankcase instead of being exhausted out. John

If your running real rich it will do that like inkpot said. Is it megasquirt?

Kevin

I would guess not because he mentioned the eprom - if it is megasquirt then make sure your injectors are opening when they should and check the setting for the "priming" pulse, been a while since I looked at the software but I remember something about the injector(s) being open for x ms when the pump first runs.

Change the oil now, if you had to crank it alot to first get started it might just be from that, drained a VW engine that seemed to be more petrol than oil once, owner had been cranking it over for a couple days without it firing.

I appreciate all the responses, I think inkpot nailed it. It was running really rich. Part of the problem was that I had made my throttle cable too short and on start up durring priming the butterfly gates were cracked slightly open. Again thanks for all the help.
