When I got my 93 FZJ80 I am dang sure that when I shut the engine and pulled the key that the fuel gauge needle dropped to the bottom. Now it stays live all the time. The guage is still accurate.. Anyone seen this sort of weirdness B4?

Mine stays live regardless of switch position. Even when the gauge fuse is blown (don't ask me how I know), the fuel gauge reads properly.

Always live on mine

always live on mine too.

My 97 is always live. Supposed to be according to the owner's manual.

Well there you go.. I guess I am just used to the BJ70, HJ61 that I had before.. I won't worry about it then..
Thanks for clearing that up for me, you guys are the best.

Glad that helped you, but now I'm purplexed as to why there are some that drop. Is this a feature only given in certian years? Can anyone else test a 93 and report?

Mine's live. My 92 Camry is live as well.

mine is live and it's an early 93.

Mine stays "live" but I interpret it is a memory of sorts. That is, if the tank were siphoned dry, the gauge would not drop until the key was turned to power. For the same reason, when I fill up the tank, my gauge does not move to "full" until power is restored.

92 over here and mine stays live as well

Ozcal is right. After a fillup the indicator does not move on mine until the ignition goes on so it's not live it's memorex.

91' live also. Why does guage needle seem to move more slowly from full to half a tank than from half to empty, grasshopper?

maybe because half on the dial is not really half a tank. So near as I can tell the half way line is half of the tank minus the emergency reserve or maybe 37.5 litres/10 u.s.g.. the distance between half way and the empty light is another 37.5 litres, and then you have 25 litres left in reserve. Since the distance on the dial between empty and half is shorter than the distance between half and full, the needle appears to be going faster even thought the float is moving at a constant speed.

Anybody buying that? :D
