so ive searched a bit, and cant find exactly what i need. i want to replace the f.f. got 126k on it. this is bad as i even have the FSMs but that thing is a tough one to decode!
here goes. do i have to depressurize the system? is this the unplug fuel pump run it out of gas bit? and if so will this set of the CEL? and if so how do i reset the CEL?(dealer once told me this could only be done with the toyota scan tool. i have my doubts!)
thanks and sorry i do feel kinda dumb looking at the fsms and not being able to find a "replace fuel filter" section.

Look in the "SFI" section of the FSM. It's all in there, but admittedly, not in one single spot. I would study that whole section, especially the "SFI System Precautions" on page SF-1, as I see it in my manual. Sorry, don't know how to post those PDF, and there are too many anyhow.

I don't recall the fuel system being under pressure when I replaced mine. Clamped fuel line, pulled off inlet (careful not to break barbed attachment), no CELs (which can be reset by pulling EFI fuse or disconnecting battery for 30 sec.).

right on thanks guys. got it w/ no problems just pinched the hose. was carefull with the barb!
1)im pretty sure i hate the dealers! i use to only take my truck there when i had a warranty. basiccaly evry time i took it there (both the ones in seattle) they either screwed something else up or couldnt diagnose the problem. so i was always intimidated to work on it myself. now after doing a few things myself i relize that there techs are brainless. and the truck is pretty standard, just expensive.

Anybody ever say where the fuel filter is? Father in law is at home (I'm not) ready to replace and I can't find it in the FSM and I'm not looking at the engine bay.

It's the black cylinder on the driver side fender.

Mine didn't spray. I stuck a rag under it while disconnecting and connecting. Probably a few drops came out.

Didn't pull the fuse or disconnect the fuel pump. Just changed out the filter. No drama.
