i was driving and my truck dies for the first time ever. after an hour we realise that it is the fuel cut off solenoid and its not getting power. we jump power from accessory power so when key is turned off the fuel is cut so the truck will turn off . i drove around like this and thought it was a decent fix until wires surrounding and bundeled with the original fuel cut solenoid power started melting. the power for fuel cut solenoid is grounded somewhere beyond where it goes into a large harness as a black wire with a blue stripe. in the wiring diagram from factory service man body and chassis it appears this circuit goes from batt to fuseible link to ignition 7.5 amp fuse as a black and green after fuse it is need black w blue stripe to fuel cut solenoid to brown need help i am trying to understand whats going on any better wiring diagrams or suggestions would be greatly appreciated:cheers:

You may need to change the solenoid. The winding insulation breaks down and shorts inside the casing.

Seen this just the once on an older car (not 80) and a new solenoid sorted it.

Hi Dave i have tested the solenoid and it works fine. I have found that there is no power getting to it from ignition, i have a new ignition switch on order will see how that goes

The solenoid may well work but, if there is a short if heats up the cables. The cables will burn where they get hottest, normally when packed in the loom surrounded by other cables.

Connect the solenoid to a battery via a 10 amp fuse and leave it for half an hour, if the fuse does not blow and cabling stays cool then the solenoid can be called good.

Regards

Dave
