I know there have been a few threads on this over the years, but I am wondering if there are any fresh ideas for putting a minimal roof rack setup on a BJ73/4. I want something as low-profile as possible, pretty much just to hold a kayak or 2 and some recovery tracks.

Cruiserdan's solution is starting to look like the best option. I don't like the idea of having maybe 50kg of kayaks supported by the fiberglass drip rails.

Something like what has been mounted on this PZJ73 also looks like a good low-profile option, I might look into that

The rack by @reevesci has weight distribution foot pads to relieve stress from the drip rails. Check out the pics again. I think that's better than @cruisedan's setup but admittedly I'm not a structural engineer

As far as I am concerned the factory drip rails should be avoided if at all possible. They were never intended to be structural members.
