So it seems like replacing the VC is going to be labor intensive.. so i'm looking for a transfer case now.

Man, that sucks. I know I was able to figure out things with mine after putting all four corners up on jack-stands and playing with all of the wheels. Did you isolate the VC as the root of the problem?

Be cheaper to pull the VC. I think it can be done without pulling the transfer case out, but not sure about that. Do you think you need it?

REPLACING THE VC IS SUPER EASY!!! TAKE OFF THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT, UNDO THE BOLTS on the tailshaft housing, remove the housing, undo the snap ring inside the tail housing, it slides right out

X2!!

It is very easy to remove, not labor intensive and TC stays put. I replaced mine once I realized it had been seized since the PO. They had run totally different sized tires on one side vs. the other. (brilliant) It had been run that way for so long it caused other issues in the driveline (the famous whomp whomp whomp sound). Replaced the VC, pulled the rear and had all new bearings installed and gears set back up correctly. No more binding, no more noise, happy truck for over two years now.

Toyota quoted me at $1700 to replace the VC.. I bought a TC with ~140k miles of a post 1/95 production model for $300 shipped. Does anybody know of a close by place around orange county cali to replace the TC.. I can even replace the VC from the other one i got if someone is willing to help..I practically haven't driven it since i bought it

ok.. so now they want $720 to replace the TC.. 6 hours of labor.. anybody wanna help

You know, there wasn't really any reason for you to buy another TC and/or VC.

You could just remove the seized one and you'd honestly never know the difference.

hey guys..its been a month since i last posted.. I found a TC from a 95 sitting in WI for 320 shipped.. and had it replaced from Crown Valley Transmission for 340..(Irvine Toyota quoted 750) and no more squealing/whining .. all good now.. thanks for the info from all on here..I could have gone the route to take the VC out of the existing one but I don't have the space to do so.. on a another note..

now i see fresh grease from the front left knuckle :(.. i'll start researching on that now

thanks
