Hello guys .. this weekend we take a short ride in a fun trail close to the city .. in one section the broder of my wife was driving Tencha and I had the chance to see from outside an interesting issue with my front suspension .. if you check here ( first min of this vid which it's the second part of the hole trip .. you will probably find the frist part under my vids if you are interested ) you will see how bouncy it is ..

YouTube - Buena Vista 2011 Parte 2

shocks ..? or too stiff spring pack .?

I recently replace ( last year IIRC ) my front main leave in both spring packs and as the last year was mostly house I haven't had the chance to wheel 'em too much ( actually this it's the second trip of the new leaves ).

thanks for all comments ..

I'm not a Rancho fan .. but more than ready to look on bilsteins .. :D

Right on fancy blinging pogo stick billys.

More money for no fix.

The rancho 9000s dont have the bling look of the billys but are adjustable and will work much better.

But hey bling is the thing.

Ill take my ugly ol white ranchos anyday.

Curious about your:

spring arch
pack configuration
shackle angle
bushing used/greased
shocks and mounts
bolts too tight

Probably the mains just need to break in.

I agree and disagree at the same time.

Agree that the Rancho's are adjustable, and for purely low-speed stuff would probably work OK.

However, they're no cheaper than a 5100 Bilstein.

Work better? No. They're made like crap and have mediocre dampening especially at higher shock speeds. (not necessarily VEHICLE speeds, but just think about dropping off a ledge) - the non-pressurized fluid in the rancho's will cavitate when stroked quickly. cavitate = no worky so good.

That said, I don't think shocks are the whole story - boots nailed it.

wrong .... Bilsteins are load sensing and WAY better the 9000xl's AND cheaper they change there valveing as the road or offroad changes so you get all the valving differences of a 9000xl but its changed as you drive for every bump ....:grinpimp:

Bilstiens 5100 are $74.99 t o87.99 and 9000xl are$100-109.99 I liked my 9000XL ... but I LOVE my Bilsteins

Don't let the advertizing jargon fool you into thinking that they are made differently from any other shock; they are not. What they have going for them (the Billies) is serviceability. You can replace a leaky seal, a damaged shaft or even change the valving yourself if you posses the requisite skills. They utilize a selected sets of deflective shims like any other shock. All my experience with Rancho has been mediocre at best.

What I was getting at is I have put on tons of RS9000s for people with too soft, too stiff, body roll, etc and they are usually a great band aid to fix something when someone does not want to remount springs or mess with valving.

Yes there are way better ways to get a perfect suspension but sometimes folks want an easy way that is very effective, but allot cheaper than perfect.

Too springy? crank them up.

Too soft, crank them up.

Too much body roll, crank them up.

Almost wore out after years of use, crank them up.

Just tossing an EASY option out there. If you can turn a knob, you can tune them. Cant do that with any other shock externally except multi hundred dollar bypass shocks.

spring arch

little to no arch ..

pack configuration

main replaced last year almost no real use after replaces .. all others are old ( about 8 years ) OME leaves

shackle angle

looks good to me .. pic to show

bushing used/greased

OME poly bushings .. all with grease but only greasable pin in the rear

shocks and mounts

factory mount OME shocks ( old maybe too old )

Probably the mains just need to break in.

Proably .. at least 2011 start quite good .. :D

That kind of bouncing suggests to me that either your shocks are worn out or the spring rate is to high for that shock to handle.

Are the OME shocks double action or only single action?

I have a fairly high spring rate in the front of my BJ74 and use factory toyota 80 series rear shocks which a double acting and fairly heavy valved compared to normal 70 series units, this works quite well for me without any of that kind of bouncing.

What about your rear suspension? Could there be a problem with this causing the extra weight/momentum to pitch forward onto the front giving issues? -

I love my rear suspension .. when Tencha it's trail loaded it's sweet and soft .. ( not as coils but good enough for the girls that we go out with :hillbilly: )
