I have a '72 FJ40 and would like to install a locker in the front. If I install a full time locker in the front, will turning be a big issue on the trail? Or will it be managable? Should I bite the bullet and install an air locker? Thanks..

Welcome.

What size tire?

Manual or power steering?

What type of trail?

Have you kept the front axle in it's stock config. or have you done any upgrades, such as disk brakes or swapped in large pattern knuckles & later model '79+ birfs yet? No way I would install an ARB if you have the stock axle. After having gone down this route before, I'd suggest beefing up the shafts (30 spline Longs) & already mentioned axle upgrades, then get that ARB setup & your ready to rock :steer:

I have stock axles...power steering, disc brakes all around. I've had a lockright locker in the rear, but it's tearing up my tires as I drive some on the road as well. I just got new tires and would like them to last as long as possible...they're pricey!!! I just received my ARB locker for the rear in the mail...didn't know if I could put the lockright in the front or not, or just get an ARB for the front as well...thanks for the info

I have a aussie in the front and no problems yet. but I dont wheel that hard you have to know you limitations. the worst thing that can happen is you brake something. good luck

I have an Aussie in the front, turning radius sucks when in 4x4, but I just shift the t-case into 2-lo/2-high if I need to make a sharp turn.

If I install a full time locker in the front
depends if you mean full time like a full time welded or a full time with a little give like the rachet style lokkas, lockrite, aussie lockers, i have herd of people saying lokkas etc make stering harder when 4x4in i not once have had that problem if any thing when i turn on sandy trails it gos were i want, i run a lokka in the front best thing ive done i think anyways

If you have arb for the rear, sells the old one, save money n buy another arb for the front you will be happy for the rest of your life

Hi All:

X2 what "bsilva" wrote.

Alan

depends on what suface u wheel on but i mainly do sand and i find the front lokka pulls you around corners/when turning heaps better than a open front ,by far make life to easy:)

Thanks everybody for the info! I think it's save up the coin and get air locker for the front. I'll put my current locker in my spare third member for back up!!
