here is one for all you "experienced" folks. so i am talking to the factory rep at Richmond Gear about their Powertrax locker. He tells me that for daily driving, all i got to do to eliminate it on the front is leave the hubs turned off. since the front differiential is free floating, i see his point.

but, my question remains, "is the locker absolutly invisable if the hubs are locked off?"

Will there be any clicks/sounds/bangs??

The rep was telling the truth.
When the hubs are not engaged or "off", you will not notice the locker at all. When the hubs are engaged or "on" and you engage 4wd you will most definitely hear clicks from time to time and know the locker is working.

so the deal is that ...

when your in 4x4, you have to get out and lock the hubs, since i have manual hubs. then do the maneuver and then unlock to role to next spot;;;

sort of like a rear slow manual manual locker for teh fronts...

Hi All:

Remember what function front axle locking hubs perform. They are designed to allow isolation of the front axle components when the vehicle is in two wheel drive mode.

These hubs connect the wheel to the axle shaft when in the "lock" position. When the hubs are in the "free" position there is no mechanical linkage of the wheel to the front axle shaft.

If the front wheels are not connected to the front axle shafts, the differential (where the 'locker is located) won't turn.

So, unlocking the front hubs doesn't make the front auto locker "invisible" at all; the 'locker won't be operating because the front diff won't be rotating.

Regards,

Alan
