Hi guy's
I have an issue with the lx. I have a high pitched bearing noise from the front end of the truck.
-The pitch of the noise does not change with the speed of the lx. but starts at about 20 mph and cont. to up to 80+ mph. It stops below 5 to 10 mph. Braking has no effect.
-The noise does stop when the lx is in a turn in either direction, and starts again out of the turn.
I rebuilt the front axle, brakes and replaced all of the races, bearings and seals about 1000 miles ago. (thanks CDan) I used mobil 1 on the wheel bearings and stay lub moly w/graphite in the birfs. Using super teck oil in the front axle. It's cheap and replaced at evey watercrossing... The lx has about 130K miles currently. I am running 285/75-16 BFG KO's and 100 series pads and new rotors in the front.
I have torn down the front axle again to inspect the wheel bearings and races and also used prussian blue to look for high spots in the races, nothing was noted. I have the preload on the bearings running at 9# passanger side and 11# on the driver side via the fish scale. I also regreased the brass bushing in the spindle housing. Still have the noise.
Any ideas? BTW I had no noise before the rebuild.
This is not my first yota front axle rebuild, I rebuilt my 85 pickup without any issues or noises.
Anyone local willing to listen to the noise?
Thanks
