So I yesterday I bolted my front differential back up to the axle housing and now the yoke doesn't want to turn freely. It felt fine before I bolted it up and torqued it down. What could be causing this? The only thing I can think of is since I used RTV instead of the paper gasket now the ring is scrapping to front cover but I don't hear any metal on metal noise.

:bang:

Got your hubs locked?

I can't think of anything that the installation would affect. If it spins freelly on the bench the only thing that installing involves ids is tghe 9 or so bolts around the outside. Right?

Does it free up if you loosen all the bolts?

Can you remove the front cover and look?

Is it possible to install it upside down?

I could loosen the bolts but then I have to redo the RTV

The front cover is not removable

It will not go in upside down as the axle housing is notched for the ring gear to slide in.

Thanks for any help though

The front cover was dented in and I never even noticed it so I had to take it back apart and pound the dent out a little.

glad you found it. the rtv wouldn't have done it. have you seen how thin the oem gaskets are? be sure to use a quality oil rated rtv. plain old orange can leak after a while. ih8rtv.
