Front Diff Mount Change & SuperPro Bushing Review (2 Viewers)

Do the alignment marks go towards the front of the truck? This would conflict with the comment that the meaty rubber parts go north/south, assuming north/south means front/back.

I have a hard time believing those are alignment marks and not simply risers in the mold tooling. The shape of the molded rubber in the replacement bushing was symmetric. The factory may have assembled them with the risers (nubs) point a certain orientation simply to be consistent and nothing more.
 
Something like this is invaluable for bushing replacement. The threaded rods only get you so far, but the cups & plates can be used on a shop press. I got mine on eBay, but here’s something similar on Amazon:

I like that tool set. It could be handy for a lot of suspension work. I tried a solid rod of steel that I had sitting around but it was slightly too small and would only rough up the bushing shell.

Unfortunately this kit would only work on 1 of the 3 bushings in the diff. The one in the diff cover and the rear bushing behind it press into "cups" so you can't push them out the other side.

You’re right. The cupped bushings can be driven out with a chisel walked around the perimeter with some patience... or a hole saw & air hammer without some patience.
A bushing press tool comes in handy for the driver side bushing as well as pressing in the cup bushings. I also used for replacing all 10 trailing arm bushings (also available from Febest).
 
Just a word to the less unfortunate. That first bushing took me 3 hrs of beating with a hammer and chisel and trying to press out in place with various sockets. It was not a fun afternoon. Pressing it in took the weight of the entire front of my vehicle plus beating on the damn thing with a hammer.
 
Though I should repost my experience here.

Did the front bushing today, took 10 min of beating out and 20 to press back in.
This is how I did it.
  1. Bended bushing metal body inside in one point to release the pressure (pic.1).
  2. Then clamped heavy duty vise grips and while pulling it down with one hand, beat the vise grips with 3lb hammer (pic.2). Came out fast and easy.
  3. Cleaned and lightly lubed the housing.
  4. Took out of the freezer new bushing (30min) and pressed it in.
    1. It went crooked first, had to gently tap it with the hammer on one side to straighten.
    2. Once it's started straight, applied more pressure with a bottle jack and used a hammer to keep it aligned. Just gently tapping it on a side.

Quality seems good, fit was spot on.

One tip I have is to use a hole saw, slightly smaller than outer sleeve, to drill out rubber. Quick and safe.

I have a 2005 LX, should fit all years 100 series.

Am glad i replaced the whole transfer box mounting as shagging around with the bushings looks like an unrewarding day of hassles. Once replaced the vestige of the drive line clunk was sorted. Had already attended to the drive line components previously but still had a little clunk evident. Replaced the rear upper and lower control arms inclusive of bushings at the same time and now my cruiser does not do the hula while high speed cornering.
 
Was having a heck of a time getting front bushing to go in straight.. hung up my tools for the night and will try again tomorrow. Any other tips you guys have?
 
I Have used Poli bushings on my 80 and have often wondered about there being issues with mixing rubber and poli bushings as they have different "give" properties and may stress various parts differently. May lead to premature failure of other bushings

I just used a floor jack with a piece of 2x4 to make a flat surface.

I wouldn't sweat it. In this particular case the bushings are taking loads in completely different directions. They're not the same stiffness in the same direction from the factory; some areas have voids, some have more rubber, etc. The poly bushing here fixes the weakest bushing. I've not had any issues and the remaining OE rubber bushings are all still intact after many road and trail miles.

The stopper in the rear passenger side is - Toyota 41653-60020
The bushing is - FEBEST TAB-332

The middle mount bushing is - FEBEST TAB 331

The front stopper is - Toyota 41651-60010
The front cushion is - Toyota 41653-60010



I have seen some parts blowouts show the FEBEST TAB-332 being able to use the Toyota cushion part number, but I would just stick to what we know and use the above.
 
If your piggy bank is full just consider replacing that entire arm for the cost VS labor ratio

@OEMGUY0720 Nothing is mandatory, you can remove and inspect it to see if it is worn or just spend the extra cash and replace it while your doing the repair.

Just wanted to make sure they will also work for an 06LX470. I got these from Timmy the toolman but it says 3rd gen 4runner:
 
That image doesn't even look like a 100 series I am not sure what you are asking.

All of the parts for the job at hand were listed in my previous post.

My apologies if this has been mentioned but I don’t recall it. What is the method for testing these bushings. I will be doing some maintenance soon, and may add this to the least if needed. I have a R-N-D clunk and this maybe the fix. I’m guessing I might be able to pry around with a bar on some spots, to see some flex Thank in advance
