My buddy Robert has a PTO winch in front of his fj40 we are looking for options for front bumpers. Anyone have a pic of the factory bumper with a PTO? currently he is running a conferr type tube bumper that the PO modified to fit the PTO winch.

the stock bumper is predrilled for the winch will bolt on if truck is not modified but is not as strong as you may need i have a pto on several trucks 1 stock 1 pipe bumper and 1 off a 6x6 narrowed so its up to you cant do photos just joined today so hoping to do them soon good luck

NMOSTOFI,
Shelfboy1 is right. Both the chasis and bumper should have predrilled
holes. I fitted a PTO (purchase from wreckers) a month ago, original
Toyota PTO taken off another BJ40 from Japan and dropped right in
with NO additional holes required.....

thanks HelimanBD, nice cruiser, my friends fj40 is a gasser, 1978 with factory installed PTO (we think), very clean, I'll look for a pic to post. somewhere down the line someone replaced the factory bumper with the tube type. Can you post more pics of your truck ? you are from Malaysia ? cool, welcome to Mud. what year is your truck ? Lots of 40's in Malaysia ? I know there is lots of 80 and 100 series brought in from Arabic countries. shelfboy1, thanks for the response can you post a pic of your stock bumper with the PTO?

NOT familiar with the "tube" type. Does "tube" meant stainless
steel or GI or some tubular pipes of diameter (2", 2.5", 3"......). Pls post some pic.

On my rig, is a 1981 BJ40 on B type diesel engine. All parts inclusive of engine, fuel pump, axle, transmission box and etceteras are still standard/original. Had posted some images previously BUT due to limited memory, had further downsize each file to 30kb (original at 1Mb and above).

Yes, am from West Malaysia. BJ40's NOT so many in West Malaysia BUT a fare few in East Malaysia. FJ (gasser) series NOT so popular as
these trucks are mainly used in logging camps where river crossing almost certain. In West M, we have Cruisers from 70 to 100series...
a major bulk is the PRADOs.... believe is the 90series.

Share more images when you have the time.

helimanBD.

HelimanBD, "tube" does not mean SS, it is a type of bumper where there are two DOM tubes mounted ontop of each other. Please see last pic. The first two are of my truck. 1982 fj40, I run an ARB bumper and a Warn 8274 electronic winch. I am very happy with this set up and works perfectly for me. The last pic is my buddy Robert's truck, 1978 fj40 with the tube bumper and the factory PTO winch. Sorry i didn't have a better pic maybe he will read this and post a better pic of his setup.

HelimanBD, I forgot to mention, nice truck, it must be cool to go to the auto wreckers and pick up a PTO direct from Japan:) I like the color of your truck, is that factory or has it been repainted ?

Nmostofi,
Thanks for the clarification on "tube".
Typically the locals here does the bumper frame work with mild steel tubes/pipes (diameter 2.5" to 3.5") and wrap surface with checker or just metal plates. Some use GI pipes only. Either case we do NOT call it tubes here..... I will try to snap a pic on LC 70series with this on.

On the RIG, it was originally painted with "Olive" green, some yellow color and later "sky" blue when I got it in Mar'06. I had it repainted with "Carlsberg" green, just 1 layer to get it registered on road.

Will share more when time permits....

helimanBD.

Hello NMOSTOFI/PTO users,
Referring to my response dated 20dec'06. Please find attached image as promised on 1989 RJ-70-RV, customized "tube" bumper and PTO easy assemble/detach informative that may be applicable to 40 series.

Per image, myfriend had a 2.5 inch diameter "tube" (B-Grade about 4mm thick gauge) bent/welded, surfaced out with 3mm stainless steel plates and with a slot in the centre between the chasis for easy attachment and removal of PTO. This modifications is for those that are NOT keen on keeping the BJ/FJ40 series classic look.

The second image noted, customized brackets for easy sliding of the PTO unit on inner chasis. Each side of bracket is tied up to the chasis with two size 17 (outer tip of chasis-noted 2 holes) and 1 size 14 (inner, NOT shown)....

Have fun viewing....

regards,
HelimanBD.
