I am changing out front pads on my 06 LX. I have a new set of Toyota pads and shims. The new shims came with the retainer and an anti squeal shim for both inner and outer pad along with a packet of black brake grease. The FSM says to use the grease between pad and shim and shim and retainer. I have used anti-squeal goo in the past on other vehicles but am planning to follow the Toyota directions unless I hear otherwise. What have others done?

TIA

I've put it beneath the shim and on top of the shim. Makes no difference in both the ways I've done it.

I just did it as directed in the FSM. So far so good

With oem I did both sides of shim per FSM with no problems (many years). I have since started using PosiQuiet pads and they do not recommend grease on their pads/shims (clarified with their tech dept) with no issues either. It is best to follow mfg instructions.

should the retainer catch both of the shims and pad or only catch the inner shim and pad then the outer shim is isolated (which with clip for piston )?
