Im getting ready to do the front brakes and axle seal kit
on my 91 fj80.
Is this a hard project ?
Also any advice before I get started in the morning ?
Any special tricks or things I should be aware of ?
Thanks in advance!!!

Search Newb :flipoff2:

Read pertinent tech article.

I would not attempt, particularly for the first time without an FSM by my side.

You are replacing the trunion bearings as well, correct?

Sorry I dont know all the handy items on this web site.
Im new here.
I will be at a toyota dealership with a friend who works there and a fsm.
Just wondering if there was anything special I should know about ?
Thanks for the help. Still new to a computer too!!! ha ha

Search for terms like 'birf' and 'birfield' . This has been covered more than any other topic on this forum.

There is also a few articles linked in the tech section of this site.

Be patient searching and spend more time reading. Birf and birfield have been discussed here like a beaten dead horse. So please seaaaaaarcccchhhhh. :flipoff2:

I just did this job last weekend, after MANY hours of research. I suggest you go to Tech Links at the top of page and look at the article and links Jim Phillips provides. I found these very helpful. Unless your a semi-experienced mechanic, I would not rely on the FSM alone. It tells you what to do, but it can be very lacking in telling you how to do it (at least for a green mechanic type like myself). This is where all of the personal accounts became VERY helpful to me. If you can, print them all up and have them with the FSM. As you have the FSM, I'd recommend you not focus on the more step-by-step postings, but rather on all of the difficulties people had and how they resolved them. There are alot of "tricks" to the job.

All that being said, GOOD LUCK, and if you get it done in less than 1.5 to 2 days consider yourself on the fast side for a first timer.

Perk
