Are you getting spark from the coil? You can arc it to the frame while cranking. If not, check that the points aren't grounded. You should have no continuity when open and continuity when closed. (In my case this showed me I had a ground issue.)

Changing the point gap changes when the points open, which will slightly change the timing.

If it's not even firing, then unlikely it's just due to points gap unless it's completely closed.

Have you actually got power at the coil?
I’ve set the points gap properly now, I had set it off of the cam instead of on the cam, I can smell that it’s trying to fire, I am using an old deep cycle battery that I had laying around so I’m going to go get a new battery sometime this week and see if it will fire with the proper battery

Can you get a spark off the coil?

I haven’t tested that yet, im going to get a new ignition coil ballast resistor, my coil is brand new so I should have no issues with it.
OK, the ballast resistor will not impact the ability to generate spark. It's a simple test to be sure the coil is getting energized and can rule out everything upstream from the coil.

Also, please check the ground on the points. When they are open there should be no continuity. If the points are grounded you've found your issue.
