Yeah, when i put the part in tomorrow it's done to the local crappy tire to align

Two thumb tacks and a tape measure and you can save the $$.

1/4" toe in.

that's all they do.

If it was complex ifs then yeah go for it, but on a solid axle with leaf springs, there's only one adjustment to make.
After that it's just adjusting the drag link to level the steering wheel.

Its like I have a talent for not being able to find parts! :bang:

Because of this one :censor:ing part had me running around town all day.
It's thread is about 1/8th of a inch thinner than the tie rod links lordco gave me.

So I finally gave in and ordered the OEM part. It's practically double the price!
Part will be in tuesday morning, so hopefully we'll be all dialed in by then :steer:

On a sidenote, I bolted in the tie rods with the 2 parts that actually work and they look pretty snazzy :flipoff2:

Did lordco give u an fj80 tie rod end.. tryin to remember if they are different...

If i remember correctly sometime back Toyota changed the diameter of the threaded part of the t.r.e. and if you changed it you had to buy the rod that goes between the two. You may not be able to buy the smaller diameter one any more.

Wonder if the 80 end has the same taper to go in the steering arm..

not the same taper . but the threads are the same . Is the original one bad ? Did you take it apart ? They do sell a rebuild kit for that joint as well , or you could try the old stuff a nickel behind the spring to increase the pressure on the ball. Take the cotter pin out and unscrew the big flathead . Insert nickel and reassemble .

This was cool; went down to Toyota to pickup the part, and to my surprise they gave me a whole new relay rod! (no clamps though)

It was interesting noticing that the threads on the new relay rod link were a bit smaller than the one I pulled off, guess thats the new thing?

All bolted up and heading down to canadian tire to get it all aligned up and dandy and we'll be back in business!:steer:

I dont know why the right tie rod link came with a nylock nut instead of a crown nut. No holes in the thread either to suggest a crown nut either...

The only thing canadian tire or any other shop can do as far as an alignment goes is adjust the toe in or center the pitman arm travel in the center of it's range . Very easy to do at home for no $$$ . Let me know if you want me to explain the best way to do it if you ever feel the need to do it again . Taking a cruiser to a shop for an alignment is not necessary imop . Glad you got it sorted .

Well, I guess this is goodbye for now.:crybaby:

Packed up all my worldly possessions and headed out to work up in Prince Rupert!

Dont know how long Ill be up there. (hopefully for at least a year) but some epic exploring will definitely be had around there!:steer:

One thing to note, once on the highway the body roll was significantly more noticable with all the added weight (maybe shouldnt have chopped out that rear sway bar...)

Managed to get up there on only 1/2 a tank!

Currently staying the night up in Port McNeil to catch the ferry from Port Hardy up to the new job!

Congrats Jordan, hope it goes well for you. There is a fellow with a really nice HZJ77 up in Prince Rupert named Karter (ForealBoreal on the forums). He's a good guy, and might be able to show you around up there. Probably other cruiser guys there too. https://forum.ih8mud.com/dto_garage.php?do=viewvehicle&vehicle_id=2987

Thanks man! I'll definitely shoot him a message when I'm all settled in up there.

First rule of business is to get a backroads mapbook and plan out future trips!

Im about 90% sure I've been seeing him around town for the last week since i've been up here

currently at 70% seeing if he lives on the same street as mine...

If he sees this, send me a PM and we'll grab some beer when im not out on the water
